I see Reggie as a front office type more so than a coach.

Nate is another ex HC. Can anyone confirm that Vogel met with him? From Nate's p.o.v. only good things can come from being associated with a contender. Like the possibility of using it as a stepping stone for a respectable opening down the road, like Shaw did.

An opening like this in Indy has got to be just a rung lower than actually being a HC. Shaw turned down the opportunity to interview with Charlotte last year preferring to stay here.

Good for Brian Shaw. We all know this is going to happen anyway. The guy deserves it.

As for our vacancy, I would like either McMillan or Hollins. But I don't think Hollins is THAT affordable.

They spoke with an Indystar reporter at a downtown Indy steakhouse (no, not St. Elmo's). It's widely reported and confirmed he meeting took place specifically to discuss the lead assistant spot.

I remember when Vogel was still an interim coach, the criteria the Pacers wanted him to meet before offering him the job was to see if he can go and recruit any legitimate assistant coaches, and he did with Brian Shaw. That criteria shouldn't change. Nate McMillan would be a fantastic assistant IMO.

It's probably just a matter of time before they announce Nate as the associate HC, considering he and Vogel met for dinner.

Meeting for dinner is beyond formal contact. For all we know they could've met 1-2 weeks ago, and the only reason it became new information is because they were spotted last night.

Looks like Vogel will need an additional assistant because Boylen's leaving for San Antonio. This is an odd development. Hopefully he's able to replace him as well with another good assistant.

Very strange. Vogel is going to need to do some searching.

Pops lead assistant left to take the ATL job, I believe. It'd be a promotion for Boylen.

Usually a head coach can only keep one assistant long-term. The other jobs generally flow in and out over the years.

Nate McMillan is finalizing an agreement to become the top assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Good news. Great to get this out of the way.

Wouldn't mind getting another former player. Maybe a Sam Mitchell or Charles Oakley? Patrick Ewing would've been a nice addition but he took the lead assistant Charlotte job.

Exactly. We did the same thing to SA some years back when we hired Mike Brown.

Very..Very happy with Nate as the Associate HC.

Both Sam and Charles have a connection to this franchise, albeit Oakley was a nemesis. Solid choices. Oakley knows every big-man trick in the book, so he'd be very useful with the bigs.

What about Kareem, Foster or one of the Davis bros?

Kareem wants a head job and feels its beneath him to be an assistant. He was shocked he didn't get the Lakers job this past season and held it against he team.

Foster has a front office job with us and looks to be on that path. I think he likes to be able to stay in Indy and not have to travel.

Antonio has a nice little job with ESPN and they seem to be grooming him as a studio analyst. Dale isn't into coaching and is doing his own thing now.

Oakley has been an assistant off and on with the Raptors. Mitchell has worked every level of coaching including head jobs in the NBA.

Most lower tier head coaches are scared of hiring great assistants out of fear that they could replace them. Not Vogel. Even as he's worked his way up the rankings to a top half head coach, he's never been afraid to surround himself with guys that could replace him. And he and the team have been better for it.

Last year, Weber worked as a secret consultant with the Miami Heat... interesting.

As we still have the Jim Boylen spot available on the staff, there's some news out of Chicago today via K.C. Johnson and the wiretap....

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... ppers-Nets

Ron Adams is drawing interest to become an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets.

The Bulls didn't renew Adams' contract for the 13-14 season.

Adams had been the top assistant of Tom Thibodeau.

Ultimately, Adams was Thibodeau's lead assistant and was let go this year by the GM, not Thibs, and may be evidence of a possible fracture of trust between coach and GM.

At that time this happened (now a month or two ago), I had wondered if he would be a possibility here. Looks like he still could be.

Adams was hired by the Bulls in 2003. Before that, he worked under George Karl in Milwaukee.

I'd like Adams although is forte is defense which is Nate's too. I wouldn't be surprised to see Adams get the lead assistant job in Boston as Brad needs to add some experience to his staff.

were Donny Walsh making the choice, I'd put his draft pick Chuck Person's name high on our list. he lost out in LA when they went away from the staff the knew the triangle. Herb Williams is also an ex-Pacer although I assume Woody wants to keep him in NYC. he's also a former center and we could use a big man coach.
