Mark Madsen added to Lakers coaching staff

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Thu Jun 27, 2013 5:53 pm

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nb ... f/2464457/

The Lakers may not be landing the big man they want, but they have landed a new big man coach.

While signs continue to point to free-agent-to-be big man Dwight Howard likely heading to Houston as a free agent next month, a person with knowledge of the situation said Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni is adding former Lakers forward Mark Madsen as an assistant coach.

Madsen was hired as the head coach of the Lakers' NBA Development League team, the D-Fenders in mid-May, but has received a promotion before his new job truly began. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the decision had not yet been announced....

I dont expect mad dog to make changes to this team being an assistant. I could see him competing with sacre for biggest cheer leader on the bench though.

I'm happy for Madsen, but a little weirded out too... One would hope there are some legitimate heavy hitters on the way to MDA's staff...

I don't know why we're getting upset over this. Didn't Pat Riley move out of the booth to become an assistant and eventually one of the great coaches of all time? Mad Dog's got some coaching experience in the NBDL and at Stanford, played under Phil and with Kobe/Shaq, probably has a good basketball mind, and is someone I can see the players genuinely liking/listen to.

But obviously I'm rambling and our coaching stuff should be headed by Phil Jackson with his associate head coach Gregg Popovich. The Lakers should also utilize their top secret time travel technology so we can have Auerbach and Daly on the staff too. Oh yeah while we're back there, we can get Wilt to be our big man coach. MJ will leave his ownership position to come be our guard coach.

why did you fix that quote? mitch as done a great job over the past decade of assembling our team but as far as i'm concerned, he's doing a great job of sucking up to Jim and taking his side in all issues. Wouldn't hurt for him to agree with jeanie once in a while.

Boy it's a bunch of over reactions here. You guys seem to think we just gonna land some big name assistant. Chances were already thin as hell on getting McMillan.

I'm not mad at the Madsen hire, he went to Stanford, smart dude. It's guys like him who end up being good coaches in the long run. You can't tie this to Dwight. ...has NOTHING to do with Dwight.
