Update. This trade cannot be made official until July 10.

"It's in the hands of KG and Boston management now," a source said.

No trade can officially be consummated until July 10 -- when a leaguewide moratorium on signings and trades is lifted -- but the teams were making fast progress toward verbal agreement on a deal.

"It's very serious and can happen very soon," one source close to the talks said.

According to a Yahoo! Sports report, Brooklyn has agreed to send three first-round picks (2014, '16 and '18) along with Kris Humphries' expiring contract, Gerald Wallace, Tornike Shengelia, Reggie Evans and a sign-and-traded Keith Bogans to the Celtics for Pierce, Garnett and Jason Terry. By agreeing to add Terry to the trade, sources said, Brooklyn alleviated some of Boston's concerns about absorbing the remaining three years and $30 million on Wallace's contract.

Pierce has a team option for $15.3 million that the Celtics would have to pick up by week's end for such a deal to have any shot in July. Because Pierce is making nearly $17 million this season, Brooklyn needs the deal to wait until after the start of free agency and the lifting of the moratorium on July 10, since the $15.3 million figure is used in the trade.

Yahoo! Sports reported the Nets' pursuit of Garnett and Pierce as a package. The New York Daily News reported earlier this week that the Nets were chasing Garnett. Sources told ESPN.com the Nets hatched the idea of trying to acquire both Boston stalwarts in the same deal because Pierce's inclusion is seen as the surest way to persuade Garnett to waive his no-trade clause.

Green?

Maybe Utah or Dallas would want JET? Maybe even the Knicks or Heat.

Rondo to Sacremento or Orlando, and I could see Green getting moved to Cleveland for 19 31 and 32 as soon as tonight.

If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at KG. I suspect he's been less than helpful in terms of trade flexibility. And I suppose you could be annoyed at the "run it back" crowd as well, since Ainge is probably feeling PR pressure to send Pierce to a desirable location.

No one to be mad at. If anything, this is a breath of fresh air compared to our dealings with the clippers. KG wants to win, Pierce wants to win, Brooklyn wants to win, Boston wants draft picks, whole thing got hashed out in one night and everyone gets what they want. Pending kg waiving the no trade clause that is.

Diva league. Diva commissioner, diva coaches, diva players, KG is a diva. That said, i'll be watching the draft tonight. Unloading Jason Terry? PP is not PP any more. He could not even drive past his new coach in the playoffs. KG can play half a game. They're shadows of themselves. Time to move on. Get er done Danny.

Conner Henry was a Celtic.

Expect 3-5 years of poor-to-middling competitiveness while DA shuffles in and out pieces until he can assemble a championship team again. I figure Boston will be winning again by 2018, maybe 2017.

All this thoughts are completely irrational... We have a good, long team, most of them are even young, maybe 2 of our stars are old but the remaining one is still young and we have a guy on the rise, blow all up is stupid... I think Green can step up and we can have some value back from KG and PP. At wrost we can have cap space to acquire a Star player in 0 to 2 years... Blowing all up means 4 to infinite years of true hell, already been trough that and No Thanks...

Approved now and final on the 10th?

Yeah. If it isn't involving any of the picks in this draft, why now? Is the Cleveland deal possible? Maybe that's it. If KG says no, Pierce gets dealt to Cleveland.

Why. So we can continue and never win a championship with this group. I'm just being honest some people call themselves Celtics fans but it seems like they are rooting for the players over the team. Shouldn't it be the other way around

A couple people guessed right Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 53s

Golden State made an inquiry on Kevin Garnett with Boston on Wednesday, but there was no traction there, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Isn't Jameer in ORL? But yes, you're right, Green wouldn't be a bad fit in CLE.

Why not get Brooks, Taylor and whoever the Nets pick tonight instead of an Evans or Bogans?

This is all just crazy stuff to start my day..

Look, if the plan is definitely to blow it up, then the Nets are obviously one of the very few options out there.. we know KG has to approve any deal and having Pierce with him makes the decision much easier

If the deal cant go through til July 10 then I understand KG wanting to take his time, however it would be nice to know whether he would ok it or not tonight, so Ainge knows what he is working with on potential deals during the draft

Not getting worked up over specifics yet, we've seen this type of report before

It can't be, yet. Need to wait till July 10th.

But since Bogans is extremely unlikely to do better than 1 year $4 mil, the teams can be confident in structuring the deal.

Well with humphries and Evans the rebounding will be better.

Will will see what happens. Would not be surprised if kg takes a week to decide.
