You don't make top 3 draft picks for the first two months of the season. You make them for the next ten seasons. This was the kind of pick an idiotic front office would make. Not shocking that ours made it. The philosophy behind it is a guarantee for failure at worst, and sub-mediocrity at best. You do not win when you do not take risks, and you never reach greatness when your major F.O. decisions are always based upon tomorrow, instead of the long view (the next decade).

Short sited thinking by a GM desperate to save his own arse. Nice job Ted. With competent management, we might have not made such an idiotic decision.

As it is, if nothing else, Porter won't be a bust, and could attract a FA big man that will cost 25x as much as Noel's rookie deal. Lovely.

Noel took a risk not going to the other lottery teams. Phoenix has arguably the best training staff in the league and they just passed on him.

So far, us picking Porter has been the ONLY predictable choice.

The problem is that if the scouts are right about what will happen with these guys, than Noel will develop into a defensive powerhouse, at worst a Mutombo, and Porter will develop into a solid 4th best guy on your roster, and that makes the decision incredibly stupid. At least Orlando got a guy most teams thought was the best in the draft, and Cleveland took a guy many thoughts could be the #1 player in the draft in a few years. We got a guy whose pretty good at everything, but is a long shot to ever be great at anything.

On the plus side, and I will admit to this, having Porter will make us mighty attractive to '14, and '15 free agents, as our backcourt and our forwards will all collectively be team first, not me first, hard working, high BBIQ guys that are self-less, smart players. That should be very, very attractive for future free agents. If healthy, this team will win 45+ next year and be a 5-7 seed.

Noel at worst a Mutombo? I understand you don't like the pick, but that's out there.

Yeah, this bizarre with a capital biz. I love Zeller, but the Bobs take him over Noel? Why? They can't seriously believe they're going to the playoffs next season. Well, he could be the ROY there.

Zeller and Len got drafted over him. This isn't just a Wizards issue, everyone is scared away of the knee. You don't take a guy with a knee issue and expect everything to be fantastic for the next 10 years.

Okay, now this is what you call bittersweet relief.

The Wizards picked well but they might have missed out on picking franchise great.

The good news is Otto Porter is going to improve as a scorer and will rate no worse IMO than an above-average NBA SF.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

WOW, Len to Suns.

PLEASE make the trade down to the Pelicans. It makes perfect sense. NO needs a SF.

Yeah, Mutumbo was one of the all-time great defensive centers, and you can't touch his commercials.

And Porter has to gain at least 20 pounds to defend at the NBA level. I doubt he plays more than 10 MPG. Beal had an NBA body. Porter does not.

That's just bunk. Porter will have no problem defending the 3 in the NBA...the same way Tayshaun Prince has no problems defending the 3.

That's it. That's what I've been saying. The whole league is spooked by Noel's knees. Someone will take him soon because he's dropped so far, but he wouldn't get to six or beyond if the whole league hadn't heard something bad.

It's not just the first five teams. Many of the teams from 6-30 wanted to move up. None has given up nearly enough to get Noel -- probably because they're spooked, too.

THank you Cleveland, saved us from the rumored Bennett pick . . .

Wow, Noel's knee must be jacked up! If Noel starts to make it to 9 or 10, I would love to find some kind of way to get back into the draft and get him.

Yea, I'm willing to redact my earlier statement. There's obviously some information out there on Noel that we aren't privy to.

Hmmn, I wonder if we have a package we can assemble to trade for Noel. I still want that kid.

Prince was a hardened senior. You think Porter at 198 can defend Lebron, Melo, Pearce, Joe Johnson, etc? Those guys will EAT HIM UP.
