Nets surely got better for next season. Their owner pretty much put all his eggs into next year's basket because their future is non existent until 2019. In most years, I'd say it's a worthy gamble because a title is a title... but not when LBJ is in his prime on a stacked team.

Very true...this team is a lot more serious than people think. I hope I'm wrong, but I highly doubt it.

That is a game changer now. Look what Pierce did last year. What Garnett did last year. They still were pushing all-star production. KG was still an elite defensive player. One of the most impactful in the entire league. The Nets are no joke. Lopez had a PER of 24. Deron over 20. Pierce and KG were still pushing 20. Don't know what this means about Blatche. Haven't even talked about Joe Johnson.

Forget age. Kevin Garnett is still a better player than most of the PFs in the league. Paul Pierce is still outproducing Paul George and every SF in the league except for a few. They are the third and 4th best players on the Nets now. The Nets are eastern conference contenders. With a front court as good as Indiana and a much better bench and backcourt.

Clearly he wants to make a statement. He's got the 400 million to throw away and not feel it  No matter what happens he could be the most committed owner in the NBA. Dam! If that team stays healthy and Wade's knee continues to decline. Can't see how they don't make the finals.

Deron WIlliams
Joe Johnson
Paul Pierce
Kevin Garnett
Brook Lopez

Thats a pretty damn balanced starting 5 right there and perfect for old timers like pierce and kg. The knicks right now don't have a chance if they stay healthy.

ugh.this is a straight nightmare. But this is a short-term plan for Nets, in 2 years, we'll be in better shape.

Couldn't the Knicks have traded Tyson Chandler to a 3rd team and gotten KG and Pierce going to NY?

I don't think a 3rd team was going to give up 3 1st round picks plus the option to swap on another 1st round pick.

I'm tight guys. Don't lie, the Nets team have a stacked team right now. Kidd drawing up a play for Pierce in a Brooklyn uniform, I never thought I'd see the day.

Can anyone predict how Johnson and Pierce will play together?

The Nets have to be the favorites to win the Atlantic now. In the East with other teams improving or regaining players from injury coupled with us likely losing some combination of players out of JR, Cope, Prigs, and K-Mart, we could easily be a 6th seed next season.

Like I said earlier, you can spin this anyway you want...

...tonight was a bad night for the Knicks.

That about sums it up.

We have the whole offseason to make a trade to improve the team and I hope we do that. I don't mean signing some D-League guys and Will Bynum. These small moves aren't putting us over the hump.

Anybody who doesn't think this makes the Nets much better than us is huffing Lysol. Sickens me to say this, but the Knicks aren't even 1b, they're clearly the #2 team in the Atlantic.

As of today the Nets are the better team in town (barring a sudden decline by Pierce/Garnett). That said, the price was pretty steep. I wasn't what picks were involved in this deal but the Nets essentially traded away a lot of future/flexibility for what could turn out to be a 1 year run at a title. Risky move and only gonna be worthwhile if the Nets indeed win the title.

It does make the east more interestin IMO and puts some pressure on the Knicks. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Wojnarowski said they were discussing it. What kind of evidence would you want? Anyhow, shouldn't post in such an absolute way about stuff.

What? When was this post even made? There was no evidence as of the initial report as wojs link said it was exploratory from brooklyns side and quickly escalated from there.

It was made when Wojkowski posted on twitter that the teams were in talks. I read all the Twitter posts, I don't think there was any implication that it was one-sided.

And in three seasons is will be an even worse night for the Nets. At some point, the chickens come home to roost.

Nets are, at best, fourth best team in the conference.

Might be sooner. Any of these old guys can fall off a cliff at any moment as we know.
