Darft Day 2013

Post#1 » by boogiesdad » Thu Jun 27, 2013 3:20 pm

Any thoughts on tonight drafts and potential picks?

We have picks:

#41
#55
#60

Personally, I would like to see us pick:

#41 Alex Abrines SG, Spain (We need perimeter shooters to spread the court)
#55 Robert Covington SF Tennessee State (We need a player that can step up into Prince's SF Position)
#60 I would take a long shot on a foreign C here.

If the Grizz can trade into or acquire a top ten pick?

Otto Porter - Georgetown - 1st choice (immediate returns and team fit)
Anthony Bennet - UNLV - 2nd choice (most upside and potential star)

If the Grizz can trade into or acquire a pick between 11 - 20?

Sergey Kasarev - Russia - 1st choice
Ricky Ledo - Providence - 2nd choice (might be a little high but believe he is a favorite)

If the Grizz can trade into or acquire a pick between 20 - 30?

Ricky Ledo - Providence - 1st choice (don't know if Stu has failed him on the cultural fit)
Gorgi Dieng - Louisville - 2nd choice

#41
Jeff Withey - Kansas - 1st choice (likely to fall maybe not this far though)
Marko Todorovic - Barcelona - 2nd choice (the draft is a win for the Grizz if we acquire him)

#55
Peyton Siva - Louisville - 1st choice
Ryan Kelly - Duke - 2nd choice

#60
Seth Curry - Duke - 1st choice
DJ Stephens - Memphis - 2nd choice (do we have the staff to utilize his pluses and eliminate his negatives)

I love the Stephens pick, but I think we would be better served signing him as a RFA.

I cant' remember - is round2 tomorrow night or tonight after the show is over? Don't they just do round1 on TV or am I thinking of NFL???

I saw Memphis Adonis Thomas listed at #60 on some draft boards... please no!

I think this is a really weak draft. Rumor is the #1 pick is this guy who has a career ending injury. No one better than that to choose from?? :o Glen Rice Jr. is also projected first rounder. I wouldn't pick him up to play for the training camp roster. I've watched him play for years and he's terrible. Virtually any free agent available on the market today would be a better selection. Another late first rounder is a kid out of Providence - let me tell you something - the guy has never even played a single game up here!! Wait for Bryce Cotton to come out - he is a baller ala Reggie Jackson. Ledo? He aint' no Brandon Jennings you've got to be kidding me. However if he falls all the way to our first 2nd rounder... guess you gotta take a shot - may be the next Josh Selby!

I hope we can trade/buy our way into a mid first round pick.

Stephens with our last pick would be phenomenal. I think he has potential to be an NBA role player.

Eh, I think Stephens has no basketball skills even if he is a big time athlete. I'd go with someone like Sharpless or even Archie Goodwin, if he ends up slipping that far. Goodwin would be one of the biggest upside picks in this draft. Could eventually become the best player, or at least has the physical capabilities to do so.

Stephens is likely to be picked up via free agency. The Grizz need someone who can create their own shot and get to the post and draw some fouls. A decent backup center for Marc Gasol and a shooter to boot.

41st pick is Jamaal Franklin. Not familiar with him. Seems to be a solid rebounder and perhaps a decent scorer. Not a good three point shooter it seems.

For a team that didn't have any first round picks, Grizzlies have had a really good draft day. Koufos a starting caliber center at 3 mill for the next to seasons for Arthur and the 55? That's a great trade for Memphis.

Getting Franklin who was widely projected as a late 1st rounder in the second is really good too.
