He's already got enough enough to live the rest of his life if he manages it properly. He got a total of $23M in salary from the Blazers plus whatever he picked up in endorsement money. I know he signed a deal with Nike prior to being drafted.

That doesn't mean money isn't the top priority, of course, But we aren't talking Norris Cole rookie contract net worth either. If he's looking at this next season as a paid rehab/career re-starter, Riley tossing out names like Ike Austin and Miami's recent record of keeping everyone but Wade healthy could get it done. We're the only team that had a guy with a new kidney make a comeback.

When you think you have a $100 mil coming in four years you blow through the 20 mil you have pretty quickly.

And you'd know that because?

in fact it's documented that he didn't blow through 20m.

I know that because I have had several clients who made north of that figure. The ones who made it young and thought it was going to keep coming spent as if the money was going to keep coming. It works for lower figures as well.

Whatever he spent, he would have spent less if you told him his career would play out like this.

I'm not sure if he spent alot of money but I can tell you that he knew about his knee's before the draft. He was prepared for this to happen as he had a fear it woudl but never brought it up. Oden isn't dumb about his career and how it shapped up as of now. Hopefully he can get healthy the way Big Z did and end with a decent career.

If someone is going to overpay I hope it's the Cavs...the more junk they have, the better it looks for us to keep LBJ.

I rather doubt your clients had the same level of financial advisers in place early or had the joy of several events jeopardizing that future cake before they earned most of it. He faced NBA mortality pretty early. The NBA has made a serious effort to stop young guys from doing exactly what you say your clients did. And number one picks get an extraordinary amount of competitive attention.

The guy didn't buy a Malibu beach house and rehab with kelp wraps and acupuncture, He went to Columbus Ohio and took classes to prepare for a coaching career. I think he won't be offered a huge deal from anyone he wants to play for and he might get the full MLE offer from same. It comes down to what he wants.

Bank or career.

They had better ones.

Most aren't first generation wealthy and came from already wealthy families.

Again my point was just that the poster was creating a scenario where you know you only have x million. Its completely obvious that you will spend more if you think you will have x+y million in your career rather than x+z million where y >>>> z.

If you really like cookies and I tell you that you can only have 30 cookies for your lifetime, you will go through them a lot slower than if I give you 24 cookies and say I'm cooking an even bigger batch soon, no matter what your self restraint is. Replace cookies with whatever you like.

And some people like you, you just can't argue with because they KNOW nothing but go around pontificating like they know everything.

Its also impossible to argue with you because you can't even keep your positions straight.

Was looking at Greg Oden videos on YouTube. Dude plays with sheer power, seemingly all the time. Lands really hard on his feet , also not sure he can run out on perimeter guys and as the NBA is going small we gotta be careful

"Oden, 25,has received interest from the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers and Memphis Grizzlies, league sources said. The No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft hasn’t played since Dec. 5, 2009, because of multiple knee injuries. "

no chance in hell the league just sits back and lets the heat get oden
they'd rather he never plays a minute for them than to risk 5mins with miami

size like that will always generate interest

yup, as soon as we try to get any kind of big man, injured or not. 100 other teams are there ready to outbid us. Just amazingly annoying. I wouldnt put too much hope into oden, he probably wants the money as well.

Hopefully he takes into account the group of guys he'd be playing with. Our team is a fun, tight knit group. Maybe he wants to be apart of that, given his past states of depression. Also, the opportunity, if he can stay healthy, to be the starting center on a multiple time championship team is there for him. Just gotta seize it and prove he can stay on the court.
