It's tough knowing we could have at least given Muscala a try out, instead of trading a random to OKC for cash.

How I feel about this is exactly how I felt about Kyle O'Quinn being drafted after that Kansas PG that we traded to Brooklyn for cash.

Kyle O'Quinn is actually a good player. He was stuck behind Vucevic all season but when Vucevic went out from an injury O"Quinn stepped it up. He was a senior and his IQ showed.

That's one reason I like the picks of McCollum and Whithey. Like Lillard they are four year college guys that might have a better learning curve. I can't dismiss that.

If he ate into Freeland's few and far minutes, would you be complaining? (and Hickson's as well, when he wasn't positively contributing).

Like Downtown said, he looked impressive when he got an opportunity with Vucevic's injury.

Crabbe is a great second round pick up and probably the closest thing to a 'steal' that we got in this draft.. I saw him play the ducks a few times when he was at cal and I thought he was a solid player. I'm willing to bet he'll be a lot better than Will Barton and honestly anything that sends Barton far down the rotation is something I can appreciate.

Going entirely off of Olshey's history I feel pretty good about Mccolum as well. The last short SG he drafted was Eric Gordon and while granted, Eric Gordon came into the league with a lot more hype than Mccolum has, from the sound of it Mccollum was Olshey's player from the beginning and he clearly has a good record when it comes to drafting guards so I'm gonna defer to his judgement on this one.

I feel the same way about Green and Carmichael as well as Muscala. 4 year guys that could've contributed right out the gate. I liked O'Quinn last year too.

I suppose we shouldn't be getting excited. After all we're talking about 5 minutes a game players that will probably occupy the last few roster spots. I don't see Crabbe eating into Mathews or McCollums minutes, and surely Olshey isn't leaving the center position duo to Leonard and Whithey.

I think we let E-Will go and let Barton and Crabbe battle for backup wing spot, as I see us using Crabbe as a backup SF with Claver moving to the backup stretch 3/4

I really compare him to a more efficient shooting Waiters. They should have comparable rookie numbers IMO.

Well.... It's not like we could have got them for a couple second rounders and cash...

Gobert.... sucks to miss out on him, but he was a pretty massive project with a high bust potential.

Koufos on the other hand, I'm really surprised Portland could get something done there. I guess they may have really liked Arthur, but it's hard to imagine the Blazers couldn't have found something comparable to ship off to Denver.

No we don't have a good backup PF.

Its hard to tell. From the sound of it Mccollum can play PG and more than likely he'll be used as a combo guard so that opens up a few minutes for the other SG's at least. It wouldn't shock me to see Wes traded but it also wouldn't shock me if he's here on opening night either considering that from the sound of things neither Crabbe nor Mccollum are ready to start.

He'd better be more efficient than waiters. Dude shoots a pretty low percentage.

There's more than enough rookies and second year guys now. Time to focus on at least a couple of good vets. I'm looking forward to that thread after the draft day discussions die down although we've covered plenty of veterans names already.

The question is what did Olshey learn, if anything, from the Hibbert situation last summer?

I can't believe the Pelicans had the nerve to protect the 2014 pick in the Philly trade. Sheesh I'm still amazed at how a trade like that could have happened, I'd think that the sixers could've done much better than that. It seems to me that the only thing that should've given Philly the incentive to deal away a top 10 PG is if NO would've made their 2014 pick unprotected. Philly's GM should be fired, Noel is an injury waiting to happen and I don't see why you trade an all-star point guard unless you're gonna have a shot at the number 1 or 2 pick in 2014. That trade makes me very glad that we have Olshey as our GM, I can take comfort in knowing that Lillard won't be traded for an old sock.

* I watched some Pac-12 games this year so I did see a few games with Crabbe. I don't know. He might be decent but I'm seeing a lot of rave reviews here for him that may be overstating things a bit. IIRC, he's a good shooter but I wouldn't label him an elite shooter. But he's probably a good gamble for a 2nd round pick

* I think people are underestimating the value that Denver probably set on Darrrel Arthur in the Koufos trade. He's actually a decent role-playing PF. He'll be a great fit in Denver's system. My guess is they wanted him and thought he was worth giving up Koufos for. He also has a 3 million salary so there was no issue matching salary. Portland only has 2 salaries that would have worked: Joel Freeland's who Denver would have no interest in; and Leonard's who Portland shouldn't give up on yet. So, the thought that Portland missed an opportunity here just doesn't seem too valid.

* Gobert?...maybe he would have been worth taking a chance on. At #27, he'd only cost about 600K in cap-space. At the same time, the Blazers took a long look at him and it seems they didn't have much interest. Perhaps, if he would have been available at #31, Portland would have risked it

* it's kind of funny people are getting upset about who Portland didn't draft at 40 and 41. Really? I wouldn't even hold out much hope for Withey

^ Meh I still don't see why Denver would trade Kufos for Arthur. I thought Kostas had a lot more value than that.
