Brandon Knight and KCP

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Fri Jun 28, 2013 5:08 am

Does Drafting KCP solidify Knights position as our starting PG?

Instead of going after Burke or any of the other 3 pg's, they drafted a SG. A talented true SG, which i don't think we've had since a good Rip Ham.

"Trey is an excellent player, somebody that I know extremely well and am very close to," Dumars said. "But we have specific needs that we had to fill and the draft really doesn't come down to a popularity contest, it comes down to teams trying to fill their needs. So that's what we did tonight. That's the decision we made tonight, that we were going to fill our needs.

Joe just said "Brandon will continue to play both guard positions", so nothing is set in stone. But, with him, KCP and Siva, I really like the defensive potential of that guard rotation.

Well why is that? 1.) You don't make a statement about your starting lineup when you have a changing roster. its just pr 101. but with that statement i think it was just more so to state that he can "play both positions". i think there point is they don't define each player in a certain way. KCP is definitely just a SG, i too am intrigued by our defensive potential, i want to see if Siva brings anything.

i'm 100% sure about 3 weeks back, i said Siva in Detroit Pistons uniform would be wierd. lol

I think it solidified him as our starting PG for the time being. However, I think that he's on a short leash, or if a good PG can be acquired in trade we're going to jump on it. Every time I hear Joe/Cheeks say that he can play both PG/SG it feels like they're not viewing him as a long-term solution on this team. I just don't see him staying long-term right now. However, at this time he's our only PG on the roster so he's starting.

what other options do we have!? or are they looking at. Bledsoe is just as unproven, and more expensive by money or trade, and no starting PG are available. If BK is really that big of a quesiton mark, i'd expect them to go out and sign a vet PG, or Jarret Jack type

I mean, there are a few PGs out there who they might wanna consider. Jack would probably be the best option as he would (I assume) be fine with either starting or coming off the bench. This way if we need him to start he can, or if Knight shows he's improved Jack can come off the bench. It sounds like SAC is going to let Tyreke walk, so he could be an option. Not sure what you guys think, but I believe this guy's best position is at PG. Another option (that I would hate) is Brandon Jennings. I hear he's basically gone from MIL, so we could potentially take a chance on him. That said, I hate him and think he's a punk, so I'd really rather not. And then there's Rondo, but I doubt we have the assets to get him as I REALLY don't wanna give up Monroe/Drummond/KCP.

my ideal guy would be Andre Miller

it depends on how much he would cost, but SAC isn't even really pursuing him, so lets keep in mind that when a team that's worst than ours is letting a player go, its probably for a reason. i do like Reke, i just haven't seen anything from him since his rookie year

Brandon Jennings actually is not a bad idea, however its not what this team needs. He's a perfect 6th man, but that's least of our needs and too expensive. He gets a lot of hate, but the kids a baller

It just shows the opportunity is still there for him. They could still sign a vet and maybe get their PG of the future in next year's draft.

I don't like the fit but right now I am hoping we are giving it a run. We had a selection of point guards available to us in the draft so clearly it was not the position Joe had in mind to address even though Knight's position has been shake. The most likely scenario right now is that we are resigning Calderon IMO. Joe has been wanting to have a pass first PG and he passed on Burke and MCW.

Calderon/Siva
Knight/KCP
FA/Singler/Middleton
Monroe/Mitchell/CV
Drummond/FA

I think we are going to have a team like this at the end.

Knight and KCP would be much better defensively then Calderone and Knight. In my opinion defense is what we may have to have to hang our hat on ,until a better option opens up at point.

This leads me to think that Joe D will work to resign Calderon which I think this team needs.

Joe D is settin the team up slowly, but surely.. We're an elite SF away from contention.. We've yet to really tank for more ping-pong balls, so hopefully good karma is headin our way and the lottery gods will gift us with Wiggins..
