Re: Tony Mitchell
We need to look into stashing this next pick, otherwise were gonna end up with too many young players on the roster. Knowing Joe Dumars he probably has his eyes set on someone.
For the first time in my life I realized that I was truly happy.......then I remembered I was drunk.

Seems more like a stretch 4 right now. Unlike the classic tweener, he can actually block shots, rebound, and has prototypical PF length. He has the potential to play SF eventually though IMO.

Re: Tony Mitchell
Good compliment to Drummond/Monroe on paper. Lack of motor doesn't scare me with a bench player. If Monroe is getting killed on pick and rolls, Detroit has another big athlete on the bench to slow the other team down. If he's good enough to be a 3rd big, it means that Monroe is always complimented by a athlete. If he can shoot, that's another thing that makes him a good compliment to Detroit's starting bigs offensively.

3-4... I like him more at 3 for us though, but will be good at 4 too next to Drummond. That pairing can be stifling defensively as well as freakish athletically. More excited to see all three on the court together with Monroe though, going big. He's a guy who has the size strength and athleticism to potentially guard LeBron. I saw a stat on him that on isolation plays, opponents shot 1-20 FG against him last year. I love this pick, more so than the first pick. If he can improve his offensive game who knows maybe could devlop into our starter at SF one day. Best case we get someone better at SF this summer though

Joe D and Co are saying the like him at the SF and the PF. They think he can defend both positions. If he works out, he could be a good guy to try on Lebron due to his size/athleticism. I am warming up to Mitchell- last draft, if he came out he was getting lottery buzz so he is definitely a talented guy
If he can exert effort he can stick in the NBA, if he doesn't- he washes out. Allegedly Joe D grilled him about his motor so I guess its a safe bet that he wont be lackadaisical in the NBA.
Monroe/Drummond/Mithcell is a sound 3 bigman rotation.

Bennett better ball handling, Mitchell dominant defense. Thats what makes this pick so awesome. Mitchell could end up better than every other pick.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

This could just end up being the steal of the draft.

This is what ever fan is currently thinking about their teams late first or 2nd rounder

Re: Tony Mitchell
Having Sheed on board to mentor tony Mitchell will ultimately result in the biggest 2nd round steal since boozer
The fact of the matter is this. He was supposed to go 1st round in a deeper draft the year prior, came back another year, and quit on his new coach.
Big time red flags, but like I said, if Sheed can mentor him. Damn we are set at small forward
And siva was a steal as well.

Every team in the second round doesn't have a 6'9" freak athlete who plays at both ends of the floor with their second round pic.

Re: Tony Mitchell
I think Mitchell will be fine as long as someone gives him an energy drink before the game. Sometimes he would not put in the effort defensively for whatever reason. Could a lack of energry or a lack of awareness. One thing is for sure, he will need a pass first point guard that will throw him some lob passes to wake him up. With some training Mitchel has the physical tools to be a solid rotational player. Good bye Maxiell.

I don't think Mitchell is going to be a rotational player. I think he's a starter at the 3 who then plays the 4 when menroe plays the 5.

Re: Tony Mitchell
I don't see Mitchell as a SF at all. In my mind he's got a chance to be a prototypical, athletic, stretch 4. In today's small-ball NBA these guys are playing more 5 than 3.
That said, I really hope he puts in the work and can be our third big with Drummond and Monroe. His talents should mesh with both of them, assuming he sticks in the NBA (which is more of a question than anyone on this forum is willing to admit).

I could not agree more. I think that if he gets a consistent jump shot down, he can be REALLY good. I was shocked when they made this pick in a good way. They talked about Drummonds motor and look how he performed for us. IMO I believe that we have a good staff to motivate young players to play hard. I would rather have a guy with red flags on motor over some rotational player second rounder like English.

He seems to know that his weaknesses are. He knows he needs to work on his shooting and he says he sees himself as a glue guy. That tells me that he does not consider himself to be team player and not some "me" selfish player. I think he could easily be more than a glue guy though.
