It seems to me that the only thing that should've given Philly the incentive to deal away a top 10 PG is if NO would've made their 2014 pick unprotected. Philly's GM should be fired, Noel is an injury waiting to happen and I don't see why you trade an all-star point guard unless you're gonna have a shot at the number 1 or 2 pick in 2014. That trade makes me very glad that we have Olshey as our GM, I can take comfort in knowing that Lillard won't be traded for an old sock.

Cause they are gonna have the number 1 or 2 pick next year. Also have the 1 pick this year if healthy and NOh top pick next year (Can't be worse than 6). Great draft by Phi. Just wish they went with Schroeder then it would have been AMAZING.

FOR NOP it all depends on what they do with their cap. Boy they essentially traded a more developed PG for the 6th pick and next years lotto pick. I doubt it's top 5 I'd say 7-12.

I'm not so convinced that it was a great draft day for Philly. A lot of things have to fall into place for it to work out for them. There's no guarantee that they land the number 1 or 2 picks in 2014 and there's no guarantee that the Pelicans are gonna continue being in the drudges now that they've added an all-star caliber player. I just don't see how tanking for the chance at the number 1 pick is worth it considering that if the plan fails they've wasted an entire season and a great building block for a rebuild project. Its conceivable that Philly could've kept Jrue and still tanked.

maybe Denver did to....until the playoffs when he averaged 3 points and 3 rebounds on 37% shooting while playing the revolving door on defense

it is possible that as Blazer fans our desperation for a C makes us look at just about any C as desirable. More desirable then they really should be

New Orleans might be pretty competitive next season

If they make Vasquez available they should get some nice offers. They'll have 20 million in cap-space. And Holiday is going to make them quite a bit better.

If they can get a healthy season out of gordon, or get some decent value for him in trade, they could surprise people

Perhaps. But of course no matter who we get at center Stott's system is gonna make our post D look horrible one way or another.

It was a pretty good trade for Philly and NO. Talent wise, Philly loses, but you have to look at it from a rebuilding perspective. They made their team a little worse ensuring that they will be at the top of the lottery with their own pick, and will more than likely get another great pick from NO next year. Having what will probably be 2 top 10 picks in next years draft, plus getting the best big man out of the draft this year is pretty good.
Andrei should use his once a year "allowance" to bang Cheryl Miller, thus creating the perfect basketball player.

Agreed!

I kind of remember being on a similar kick with you last summer about another rebounding player we could or should have gotten in the 2ed round... but I cannot remember who now :P

But I wonder why Carmichael didn't get picked.

He'll be a great fit in Denver's system. My guess is they wanted him and thought he was worth giving up Koufos for. He also has a 3 million salary so there was no issue matching salary. Portland only has 2 salaries that would have worked: Joel Freeland's who Denver would have no interest in; and Leonard's who Portland shouldn't give up on yet. So, the thought that Portland missed an opportunity here just doesn't seem too valid.

This. Arthur is being underrated as a component in the trade. He might not have started, and he might of played for another team, but there are a lot of positives about him (including his salary) and Denver needs a boost at PF.

This same thing happened with PG's for a loooong time.

Carmichael didn't get picked? Sign that man up immediately for the summer league team.

This time we are not looking for a star player though just a solid/good starting one, as oppose to pg.

Just realized Myck Kabongo didn't get drafted either. Portland needs a third pointguard especially since we don't know how McCollum can handle that role. Sign him up for summer league as well.

I think we'd prefer a vet than another rookie to be honest.

Just to sneak off topic quickly. I wonder where Maynor ends up? It seemed to me that pointguards weren't too highly valued last night, most dropping into the teens at the draft. Is there a bit of a saturation point for mid talent ones at the moment?
