KG & Paul were always leaving unfortunately & the 3 future 1sts in this deal are nice but I will be extremely disappointed if both Humphries AND Wallace are on the roster next season.

Hopefully one is getting moved immediately.
This is hardly even fair, the rest of the league is playing checkers and Danny Ainge is playing 12-dimensional chess.

i think KG will have field day with a legit 7 footer by his side as Brook Lopez.
Their interior defense should be a top 3 in the league

I think Humphries's contract is expiring. 90% sure.

Wallace will remain a poisonous monstrosity, however. Virtually un-trade-able from what I know.

Yes, Humphries is expiring for sure. I am not looking forward to watching Wallace in Celtic Green but appears we will be stuck with him & if one does get moved it will be Humphries. Or we can keep both & all vomit in our mouths a little bit.

Their O was already good and that was with an average coach and a poor replacement, With KG and Paul bringing that defensive intensity and Kidd will also impact their defense, they should be a top 5-10 defensive team too.

Any season ticket holder should have seen this coming.

Oh REALY? I suppose you know a few 13 year olds that have nba potential? Do you have a mock for the 2018 draft? What moron thought we would trade two great players for 3 picks over FIVE years ANd take a CRAP contract back?

And you're acting like pp and kg are in their 20s. These guys are past their prime and need to play between 25-30 minutes a night. They should have blown this team up two seasons ago and perhaps they would have received more. This had to happen because I for one was not ready to sit through another season where this team treads water, finishes 500 season, and gets tossed in the first round.

Wallace is not a great contract but its not out money so who cares? Don't tell me that it cripples thier cap space because no FA sign here anyway. That 2007 team was built by getting young players, picks and expiring contacts. My best guess is that is what ainge is trying to pull off again.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/94299 ... ierce-deal Brooklyn has agreed to send three first-round picks (2014, '16 and '18) along with Kris Humphries' expiring contract, Gerald Wallace, Kris Joseph, MarShon Brooks and a sign-and-traded Keith Bogans to the Celtics for Pierce, Garnett and Terry, a source told ESPN's Chris Broussard.

It was initially reported that Brooklyn had included Tornike Shengelia and Reggie Evans, but the source told Broussard that the Joseph and Brooks were in the final tally.

I would have thought better deals would be out there for the C's. I hate getting crash in the deal, that contract is ugly. I guess on a positive note they were able to move Terry.

What a terrible week for Boston sports fans.

YES!!!!!

No, I'm not that jacked at Brooks, rather all of the OMG WHY PASS ON BROOKS FOR JJJ arguments can be put to rest.

Again, I abused myself to Toko videos, but given our mounting stable of young 4/5's, I'll relent and say that I'm fine with the Toko/Brooks trade off.

The tiniest of asSets. Will be like Todd Day Jr. if we're tanking.

I just can't believe we got two guys named Kris in one trade.

People are concerned about Wallace's contract. Jackie M was EEI. There is some clause the Celtics can use to stretch out his payments. IE She was saying the Celtics could potentially release Wallace and instead of taking a 10m a year hit the next 3 seasons they can stretch his contract hit against the cap for 4m a year for 7 years.

If Danny manages to trade Humphries for cap relief and do the same with Wallace(or just hold him for a year and try to build him up), he's an absolute b-ball genius!

This is correct. Cap hit can be spread out for double the years of the contract plus 1 year. I don't anticipate that we would do this now, however.

One caveat there is that if Wallace can negotiate a 3-year MLE backchannel this summer, we could buy him out for the remainder, and spread that 15m out over up to 7 years. He gets paid the same amount.

Other thing I just noticed is that there is essentially no protection on the 2014 pick as well. It is merely the lesser of their's and Atlanta's, and the Hawks are probably going to be terrible. The deal would not work if there was any greater protection, because we would not be able to get 3 picks if one of them rolled over to the following season (there's a 5-year limit on 1st rounders being conveyed).

So basically, we could get as much as the #2 overall in 2014, and the #1 overall in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. That won't happen, but what also won't happen IMO is the Nets not having at least one bad year over the next 5 seasons due to injuries or missing out on FAs or whatever. Even ONE top 10 pick would justify this entire transaction all by itself, no?

So, at the end of this, I am left with the following two conclusions:

1. I cannot believe how badly we VIOLATED these guys for 3 old dudes who have 1-2 years left as role players.

2. I cannot believe how many Celtics fans are completely oblivious to that fact.

Goog luck, Paul and KG. You'll be missed. But good thing you are retiring soon, lol.

^ Yea, exactly what Captain_Caveman wrote. You guys are tripping. I'm one of the biggest Paul Pierce fans on this board and I really am, I've been to the US once in my life and the 1st thing I bought there was a PP championship jersey...

There was just no point in holding onto PP and KG any longer. We weren't winning anything- Heat/Pacers/Bulls are just better/younger at this point. We got 3 picks, we also got 1 pick for Doc. So we already traded 3 assets and we got 4 picks out of it, that's how you jump start your rebuilding.

I can't believe that most people here are mad at Danny. I for one hold no ill will towards Ainge, he did a very decent job, he actually robbed the Nets. That's not to say that the Nets didn't get better by doing this trade, hell yea they did and here's the time to point out that comparing LAL 2012-13 to this Nets' team is hilarious. Lopez can score inside out, they don't have a ballhog ala Kobe, Williams is in his prime, while Nash is 40 and KG is a far superior defender and even jump shooter than Pau is, MWP and PP aren't comparable....

Back to the point, let's hope we tank only next season and then we get back to relevancy.

Let's root for the Nets to win it all this year, we owe it to PP and KG. They deserve at least 1 more ring a piece before they hang em up.

Cheers.

Enjoy Marshon. He's a very good prospect.

He needs alot of work but he's a talented scorer. If he is challenged he will defend and make good plays.

He was ruined here under Avery and became his whipping boy, refused to develop him into the 6th man we needed and resulted into overplaying JJ 40 minutes per game as spite and it ended up hurting us in April.

Marshon needs a good situation and he could start right away and make that starting lineup with Rondo very good going forward.

Between MarShon and Craw, this is going to be a hilarious outpouring of offense with very, very little D.
