Lakers Front office reaching out to Phil on possible return?

Post#1 » by leeprettyp » Fri Jun 28, 2013 1:24 pm

http://www.yardbarker.com/nba/articles/lakers_secretly_reach_out_to_phil_jackson_again/13924510

You must be high T… With the latest round of rumors circulating that Dwight Howard doesn’t want to return to the Lakers because of the current head coach, our sources have informed us the Lakers are quietly figuring out a way to end Mike D’antoni’s tenure, and replace him with Phil Jackson. “The Lakers have asked Phil ‘hypothetically’ if the job opens up, would he become available to coach one more time. Phil is basically saying he’s too old for hypotheticals, and they should call him again when the time is right.” said our source. I think Phil needs one last run, so as a fan of the NBA, I’m hoping Dwight once again gets his way.-TO Phil Jackson Takes His Laker Girlfriend to Dinner Phil Jackson Pushes His Book Hard

You calling B.S. or not? If our next franchise player is asking for us to bring back Phil and fire Dantoni, idk what were waiting for if Phil decides he'll coach one last go around

I really want to believe this is true but we all know what happened last time we thought Phil was back.

I don't think D'Antoni is a bad coach. He's just not the correct coach for the players we currently have.

Agreed.. He's just bad at using star players that aren't pick & roll pg's or pick & roll bigs. & bad at using role players that aren't spot up 3 point shooters that can set solid screens. If we had a roster that fit, I think we'd have a shot at winning the most games in the west this season.

If there's really been some type of indication from Dwight to our FO that he won't be back if D'antoni is the coach, that's a tough spot to be in. I know we're a proud franchise.. But I don't think letting Dwight dictate the firing of a coach will look as bad in hindsight as letting the best C in the league walk.. If Dwight stays & we get Phil back, we have a shot at contending this year, if Dwight walks & D'antoni stays we don't. Choosing coach over player would be a huge mistake in this scenario.

Maybe the Lakers are feeling just a little heat from the lastest rumor and knows only Phil can save this situation. Just think. ..if Jim and Mitch can quietly remove MDA as coach, make the money still work for them by moving MDA to a front office role. No bad PR hit there, then get Phil back in as coach and VP of basketball ops. Excellent move...again no PR hit. Instead it's praise all around. Now you have a chance to keep D12 because Phil is a guy he respects.

Oh yeah you NEVER choose a coach over a player. That's not how this league works.

Being real about it, while a lot of us aren't really that high on D12 because of his limited game to start with anyway, I think in general what we're looking at as fans of our team is the fact we've always banked on the Lakers doing things their way. And the fact that we've always come out on top in pressure situations.

It's not so much the fact of losing Howard and not being able to recover, it's the fact we don't want to lose him and looking like straight ass in doing it. That's the bottom line to all this.

Because fact is the Lakers DON'T lose free agents period.

well i'm all for getting a different coach than D'Antoni but if we're doing this to just appease this baby, then it's just pitiful.

i'm not a fan of d12 but if we can keep him and have phil as coach then i'm all in for it rather than keeping MDA and letting d12 walk ... ^_^

This would appease me... :D

For me it's not really about appeasing Dwight, although the timing and perception kind of sucks.

Phil is maybe the only coach that seems to feel confident that he can make Kobe/Nash/Dwight/Pau work....
And given our financial situation and the CBA, it's going to be next to impossible to move Pau without amnestying him. Which helps the bottom line but does nothing for us performance wise because we still couldn't sign anyone to replace him. And as much as he's declined, how many options are there for us that would be better?

We're a much more attractive destination for 2014 free agents, with Howard than we are without him also.

All that said... I call BS.

Although I do think it's kind of interesting that MDA hasn't hired any assistants other than Madsen... I would think all the candidates are either available now or aren't going to be.

I would believe this if Brian Shaw didn't already take the Denver job.

this is a mess dwight leaves because he doesn't like mda - so then the lakers get rid of mda for phil then we'll hear how howard would have stayed if he knew mda was going to be out and phil coming in

I want him back more than anyone. I just have not accepted the fact that he is considering coming back. I think he is done.

Pippen and Rambis are still available though and I'm sure he could get Cleamons back...

Me too... But I could see him in like a puppet-master role with another strong coach taking the lead on the sidelines...
I think he wants Pippen to get that shot, and I could see that.

Could be why Madsen was hired. Another Phil ex-player/coach who knows the triangle offense that can be groomed up.. Really just all speculation at this time. Man I just wish Phil had a crack at this core
