Players I would have drafted instead of Porter:
1. Noel

Commentary: I have this nagging feeling that Porter is going to have a lot of Evan Turner in him. Porter is a jack of all trades but a master of none. In the NBA, you need to have a few elite skills and then be put into a system where your elite skills are maximized. I don't really know how to do that with Porter. My satisfaction is still pretty high mainly because, with the exception of Noel, there weren't any other options that really excited me.

Glen Rice, Jr.
Overall satisfaction: medium

Players I would have drafted instead of Rice, Jr.:
1. Ryan Kelly
2. Pierre Jackson
3. Nate Wolters
4. Probably several others

Commentary: I don't know too much about Rice except for that scouting video that fishercob posted. He seems a little slow-footed to be a SG so that makes him a SF, where he could pan out just fine. Unfortunately, we already have 3 other SF's on the roster. I don't think he is such a talent that we should have taken him over guys that can immediately fill a need.

Nate, please name the "probably several others," or forever hold your peace.

Porter-High satisfaction.

Alternatives:
1. Zeller
2. Burke

Rice-Medium satisfaction.

Alternatives:
1. Jackson
2. Withey
Though Dr. J, Darnell Hillman, and Artis Gilmore's fros got most of the attention, George C. Trapp's fro should be noted for its bouncy qualities.

I guess you're right that I could have just cut it off at 1 player, because you can only pick players who were available at that pick anyways.

None

Glen Rice, Jr.
Overall satisfaction: high

Players I would have drafted instead of Rice:
1. Unsure of who else was available/non-committal
2. Trade 38 + cash for Rudy Gobert (*rockymac52 added the specifics of this trade, but Deeptu said he wanted to trade for Gobert, so I assume this is what it would have cost)

Actually, Rocky, with Payit's quote in mind, what I meant was that my first choice would be the Gobert trade and I don't really have a second choice as I'm not qualified to splice most of those guys. So just write in the Gobert thing, s'il vous plaît.

"Take the 7'2" who moves decently if he drops to 27th and can be had cheap" sounds like a good general maxim, so I can't take much credit for top notch scouting if he works out.

My satisfaction level will be based on what we do to acquire a young, star big in the future. If the goal is to eventually sign or trade for Cousins down the road...

Porter Satisfaction: Very High
Porter will help develop our assets and help propel us as a desirable destination. He will distribute, facilitating growth of young bigs. He will defend and lead by example, further solidifying a culture conducive to development. The question remains, do we have a management team that can get us a star big? If not, my satisfaction level is very low.

Players I would have drafted first:
Noel, based on his ability to be flipped for Cousins.
Zeller/Len/Porter are all equal risks IMO. But, hard pill coming out of this draft without a big. There better be a plan.

GR3 Satisfaction: Very High
No doubt entitled. No doubt has bad tendencies. He also has a pretty damn impressive toolbox for a second round pick. He's coming onto a team built around work ethic and poise (all the way through). We can handle, and might need, a "Larry Hughes" off the bench. I actually think EG has a better eye for this type of pick than most give him credit.

Player I would have drafted first:
Wolters, if I were another team. Wall is still developing. I still want a vet point here to help him. Now, we can spend our full MLE on a developed, tested mentor.

PS... We are still building and will be for the next two years (and the playoffs will help us sell ourselves as a destination). No need to have to get all the pieces this draft, as long as they come eventually when it matters.

PPS... Kabongo as our third point please. Then, I'll grade this draft an A+.

PPPS... I have an allergy to "formats" -- blame my parents and society in general.

Otto Porter
Overall satisfaction: [very high, high, medium, low, very low]
High

Players I would have drafted instead of Porter:
1. Noel (although I'm assuming his knee is fudged)

Glen Rice, Jr.
Overall satisfaction: [very high, high, medium, low, very low]
Medium

Players I would have drafted instead of Rice, Jr.:
1. Ryan Kelly and Nate Wolters (with the two picks)

I rated Porter as a "high" instead of "very high" because I felt the Wizards could have done a little more with the pick (maybe a trade). But Porter, Noel, and Office Dipo were my guys.

Glen Rice Jr...I'm so-so on him because of his attitude problems/legal issues. I hope he's on his best behavior, but DC has a way of bringing out the worst out of young rich athletes.

You're giving people too many choices. Just name the 1 guy you would have drafted for each, GM's only get one pick and you can't do fantasy trades.

Otto:
satisfaction: high
I thought Len was tempting, and I wish we had a young big to balance our young backcourt instead of a young swingman. But Len's stress fracture scared me, so I'm fine with the pick.

1. Len
(distant) 2. Noel

Rice:
satisfaction: medium high
I'm only going with "medium" instead of "high" only because of our checkered past dealing with players with red flags. We need a bench scorer. I would've been fine with Wolters as a PG prospect, but I'd prefer to back up Wall with a veteran PG anyway. Ideally, we can use Ariza plus an Ernie's Kid or two to trade for a solid backup PG.

1. Wolters
2. ...

I'm glad we consolidated the two second rounders, btw. I'm not interested in bringing in two marginal prospects, and Rice seems to rate as the archetypal "2nd rounder with 1st round talent,." So, I'm fine with the trade.

I'm perfectly fine with the draft, but if it was me picking it woulda bin:

Noel with the first pick. Otherwise, I'd flip a coin between Porter and Zeller.

Withey with the second pick. I can't lie - I feel a little sting that we coulda had him. Muscala would have been my 2nd choice for the 2nd pick.

Oh, and with the forgotten 3rd pick - beats me. I was asleep at the time and too lazy to check who was available. I'm guessing Seth Curry would have been my pick.

But again - no complaints - I'm happy with the draft.

Otto Porter
Overall satisfaction: very high

Players I would have drafted instead of Porter:
1. Noel

I'm not privy to the same information as the team on Noel, so I'm going off what I know. If there's truth to the rumors that some teams (aka Phoenix) red flagged him, then he would have been my pick.

Glen Rice, Jr.
Overall satisfaction: high
Players I would have drafted instead of Rice, Jr.:
1. Wolters

I looked at the options here, and there's a good four or five that all seem roughly as decent as the other, Rice included. I think I would have taken Wolters first, but none of the others stand out enough to specifically list.

Just win baby!

Because he has upside. He improved a lot from Fr to So yr and put on a lot of weight. Dude's only 20, and big men take longer to develop than wings and guards. People were saying the same thing about Drummond last yr (that he didn't dominate college - even though he was a only Fr playing w/ poor passers), and he had arguably the best rookie season this past yr.

Otto Porter
Overall satisfaction: high

Players I would have drafted instead of Porter:
1. Noel.
2. Maybe Alex Len if my Big Man consultants said they thought they could work him into something special. (I'd have Hakeem on my staff next to Sam Cassell).

Glen Rice, Jr.
Overall satisfaction: very high

Players I would have drafted instead of Rice, Jr.:
1. Nate Wolters
2. Arsalan Kazemi
3. CJ Leslie
some combination thereof.

And I think I would have been wrong. I think Ernie beat me on the second rounder for sure.

Noel + Len. And we don't need to wait 3 years, I know I'm right. In the NBA you win with having the best player and those two are a couple standard deviations ahead of Porter in having that shot. Not to mention position scarcity and the fact we already have very solid offensive and defensive options at SF.

I still like Porter and think he was the best fit for us of his tier (Oladipo/Mclemore). We also avoided disaster (Bennett/Luol Deng or whatever other crazy trade).
