One of Iguodala, Green, or Chandler

If we could get Iggy, our defense would so good. That's definitely our best option, imo. Getting Green from Boston is a very good backup plan. I'm not really sold on Chandler though. Injury prone, average defense, streaky shooting, I'll pass.

Re: Sam Amico: "Pistons serious contenders for Iguodala"
So far the names I've heard us linked to are Iguodala, JR Smith, and Bledsoe. If we got all three and came back with that trio as our starting perimeter with Drummond and Monroe up front next year, hard to compain about that starting 5. Curious to know how much the Pistons are willing to go on Iguodala? If they are making a "serious charge" sounds like maybe a max deal or close to it. With all these young guys contributing on rookie deals, I wouldnt even be opposed to overpaying a vet. It all balances out in the end if you get all-star production from your C and PF for a combined 7 mil/yr

Iggy would cost us $60 million over 4 years. He turned down $16 million to opt out.
I'd rather get Josh Smith if we're going to spend that kind of money.

He's looking for more money overall (16mil+), not more money per year. Not saying he wouldn't take it if he was offered it, just saying he's not going to require it.

Well we have $29 million in capspace so we could in theory give Josh Smith a deal starting at $15 million and Iggy a deal starting at $14 million and have the best defense the NBA has seen since the Pistons of the mid 00's.

Wondering if Sheed could help us recruit JR too. Both played together in NY this year and because Sheed isn't technically hired yet, he can talk to Smith about coming here before other teams can. Trade Knight for Bledsoe and buyout Stuckey to create room to resign Calderon.

Smith/KCP
Iguodala/Middleton

Would you guys honestly want Smith? I mean, I know he can score, but he doesn't really do anything else. And he jacks up a LOT of shots to get those points. Obviously it depends on the price he's going for, but it doesn't seem like it'd be worth it. I'd rather sign a guy like Redick who had a great year last year who we could probably acquire for less.

Re: Sam Amico: "Pistons serious contenders for Iguodala"
Iggy is probably looking for a 4 year deal, considering the fact that Detroit won't be the most attractive option for him I can see Joe paying him 48-to-52 mil/4 years, which would be overpaying out of necessity.
I would love to have him on our team, not the oldest guy at 29 years old and really good knowledge of the game. Also fits to what we currently have nicely.

Stay away from JR. We don't need that. Pope will be better for us IMO. Way better defender and cheaper.

Pope is a rookie. Even if he pans out he won't be paying dividends for a few years at least. We still need a starting veteran SG if we want to win next year. Otherwise way too inexperienced of a starting 5 even with Iguodala. Smith would give us a great shooter and veteran at a reasonable cost. I personally would rather go after Tyreke Evans but no indication the Pistons are interested. I'd be happy with Smith as a consolation. Better than starting a rookie.

That's what Stuckey is for

Certainly, as long as he drops 25 lbs and becomes a legit small forward and starts hitting three pointers at 40%+.
Otherwise, I've no interest in that guy. His attitude is crap. If I look at it in a vacuum of "Either Igoudala or Smith", I'll take Igoudala in that scenario. At least you know he'll play hard and won't be a problem in the locker room, despite his suspect shooting and declining athleticism.

Re: Sam Amico: "Pistons serious contenders for Iguodala"
From Joe D's post-draft press conference —
"The pick of KCP if you had the privilege of seeing our roster board, we are basically desolate at the wing positions. It was just a major focus of ours going into this draft that we had to upgrade the wing athletic shooting. We just don't have enough of it ... Just don't have enough wing, long athletes, and so that was going to be a priority for us."
So yeah, we're gonna throw serious coin at Iggy, 'cuz Joe might as well have been describing him with those quotes. This sure sounds to me like Joe's plan is to surround Moose & Dre with athletes and shooters, and Iggy's ability to run the offense from the SF position (letting both BK & KCP play off the ball) is also a huge plus. I'd expect us to offer him around half our cap space ($14M per), then go bargain shopping with the rest for another couple of solid role players.
(P.S. — I think this also means that Tony Mitchell is DEFINITELY a major part of our plans and more than just a second round flyer; again, he fits Joe's description of an athletic wing who can guard multiple positions and shoot the ball to a tee.)

Re: Sam Amico: "Pistons serious contenders for Iguodala"
He's probably our best shot as he's a midwest kid and thus won't hold it completely against us. Also he has played for Cheeks in the past - though that could also be held against us depending on how their relationship was. He did choose to go to Arizona for college ball. What contenders have money? Will Houston/Dallas Howard bidding loser look to spend on anybody?
I'd also like to bring in Chris Kaman to back-up Drummond for 18 minutes a game, allowing Monroe to become a fulltime PF.

If he wanted to accept a bench role on a lottery team, I'm fine with that. Brandon Wright would be another low-cost efficiency guy they could sign to spell the 4 and 5.
I wonder if they're going to try and groom Mitchell as a 3? If they could do so, he would be a smothering defensive force as long as he had the foot speed.

The Bobcats didn't tender Byron Mullens a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent, too. He's definitely the right age and could fill the role of a floor-spacing "stretch big" off the bench. I wouldn't invest much in him, but he's another name to put on our list of possibly-cheap back up big man options.
As for Mitchell, I honestly don't think they care about a specific position. Based on what Joe said, I think they want to fill the roster with athletes who can run, defend, and shoot, and Mitchell projects to do all three.
