Lee was a Warrior for about 20 minutes. They subsequently traded him to Phoenix.

He wasn't an asset, he was a liability.

Hey guys! Sixers fan here. As you may have noticed, we have begun Operation: Tank for Wiggins. You guys obviously won't be doing anything of the sort because you're a few players away from being really special. Would you do this trade?

Sixers Get:

Richard Jefferson (10,164,000/1 year left)
Andreas Biedrins (9,000,000/1 year left)
1st round pick 2014

Warriors Get:

Evan Turner (5,293,080/1 year left)
Thad Young (8,289,130 3 years left)
Jason Richardson (5,799,625/2 years left)

We clear the cap space entirely to do our best Charlotte Bobcats impression. You guys get replacements for Jack and Landry that are in my opinion superior players at age 24/25, with the option to hold onto/ditch ET in his contract year, while simulateously taking RJ and Biedrins off the books. For the favor of handing you ET and Thad for virtually nothing, you take on J Rich for an extra year and he sits on the same part of the bench that say Brandon Rush now sits. Because your starting 5 is legit and 6-8 is now set with ET, Thad, and Draymond Green, you will presumably have a mid to high 20s pick. Presumably, you won't find a player as good as ET or Thad individually at this range most times, let alone both put together. So chip that in and we are good. Would you do it? I know Hinkie is crazy enough to try it.

Even if it puts the Warriors into the luxury tax for 13 players by $400K with Bazemore? Or $900K with Bazemore and Nedovic? I would probably want to tweak the deal to take the Warriors out of the luxury tax, but I don't think the Sixers have much else they can offer.

I don't make that deal. Absolute wing overkill. JRich is old, and Turner would likely walk being a bench player all year. Thad is a solid pickup, but he'd also be on the bench. I'm of the sane folk that would like to hold on to our new pick freedom for a while after years of owing it elsewhere.

Simplify it. If the tank rebuild is what you want, then Jefferson for Thad it is. Saves Philly around 19 million and gives them cap room for 2014.

Tank re-builds don't mean a team trades away good, young talent on decent contracts without getting back more than cap relief - which they're likely to have to use in over-spending on somebody else. The only reason Philly might consider the original idea is because the pick is coming back to them.

So far from Sixers/Warriors fans alike the trade is 4 yay and 1 nay. I totally understand wanting to keep the pick if I'm you Coxy. However, I dunno if it's really the wing overkill you think. ET is actually much better as a primary ballhandler than he is off the ball. Doug Collins was just a moron. Mark Jackson is not. He prefers his players to actually do what they're good at. I think Evan would be dynamite for you guys as the back up point/6th man type. He's really the ball dominant scoring guard that Jack was, just overall a more explosive player that randomly goes off for 20/10/5 when he's on. His 13 double doubles last season are a testament to that. Given how close you were to taking the Spurs down, I think with the addition ET and Thad, you've got a real chance to make a run at the conference finals/nba finals sooner rather than later. J Rich is just to make it balance and he'll be sitting on the bench wherever he plays. Let's be real. You need 8 players to compete for a championship. You now have 7 that are legit starter quality or better. Draymond Green is a perfect 8th guy that hustles and makes those winning plays. The two I just gave you are proven starters under the age of 25. Where you are picking in 2014, rarely will you find a player as good as the 2 I'm literally handing you. I'm just asking for cap flexibility and a late 1st rounder. J Rich is just a passenger to allow this to happen. It's a win win for everyone honestly.

One quick note on the contracts - you quoted the 2012-13 salaries, not the 2013-2014 salaries. With the "right" salaries noted, the Warriors would be taking back an additional $2.4M (Turner's salary alone goes up $1.4M from last season to this one), and this would immediately bump us into the tax. Also, Turner's rookie contract means we could (or could not) give him a qualifying offer of $8.7M in the summer of 2014, so it might be 2 years left on the deal. However, it's likely he wouldn't be extended that offer, he hasn't shown himself to be a player who really should command that salary.

That said, I still like the deal for the Warriors, a lot. I think you hit it on the head, that Turner effectively becomes the second ball-handler for the team, and the need to bring Jack back is a little lower. Now we just need you to talk to your GM and have them make that offer!

Haha I'll get Hinkie right away Chuck! Those are the correct salary figures you mentioned. Forgot about the qualifying offer part. My bad. Nonetheless, works really well in both teams favor and follows our current hyper tank strategy to the T without creating a rival in our own conference/division. I really am excited for your future as well as ours though, regardless if we made a trade like this or not. But if the trade did go through, this brings you closer to a championship at minimal cost and gives our GM the flexibility to run amok in 2014 so we aren't aggressively mediocre anymore. Best part of all is that Hinkie could conceivably do this.

I don't want to add any salary past this season, we will need that money for a big man which is much more important than anything we are getting back in that trade.

For the Philly deal..

swap JRICH for Hawes and make the pick top 3 protected and Im in.

As for Dwight, you get your choice of one player in Klay, Barnes, Lee or Bogut.

If its Klay or Barnes, all your getting back is RJ and Beans to make the money right

if its Bogut or Lee, I would add a 2014 1st, 2017 1st along with Ezeli and Green.

Ok, everyone on twitter seems to say they are meeting him.

I offer Barnes + Bogut, and hope they say yes.

I'm fine with Klay or Barnes + Bogut + a pick. It's a good deal for LA but leaves us enough to still be the best destination for him basketball wise. If it takes more than that he should go to Houston.

Return to Golden State Warriors
