The Celtics and Sixers are both going into next year with next to nothing, the Mavs could very well have nothing of value but Dirk, and several of those other teams are still putrid. I still think we would've won 30+ games last year if not for Dunlap and his tanking strategies. Now add in a better coach, Zeller, and improvement from all our young guys. Where do we fall? If we're serious about getting Wiggins, expect some 10-20 game phantom injuries from everyone and some ridiculous rotations.

As long as the C's keep Rondo then the Sixers are the only threat. Magic will improve, Bucks will lose Monta but apparently are willing to lock up a lot of money into Jennings and what else did they lose? The Suns could be a threat also but we don't even have to have the worst record in the league just win no more than 29 games at the most.

we don't have to "out tank" them, we just have to be in the mix and hope that one day we won't get absolutely ****ed by the ping pong balls.

I cannot believe we are already talking the ''14 draft.... again. Just like every year. It's like the only purpose of our regular seasons is to waste some time and hopefully tank hard enough to get a top3 pick.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting tired of this. I think I'd rather have a team like we had 4 years ago, maybe just with a bit of a different approach and the aim to improve the team year for year. Instead of constantly taking huge steps back.

It really does feel like the team swung for a double instead of going for the home run with Zeller ... but I'm not convinced that it's a bad thing anymore. Watching McLemore at the draft made me wonder if he would have been a good fit on this team or not. I was never on board with Noel ... and the fact that Phoenix passed on him with the best training staff out there ... well that's enough for me.

In the short term I'm willing to bet that it plays out well. Next year the team should be better and Zeller is likely to be starting by the end of the year. Noel and McLemore will probably take 2-3 years to get healthy or really fit into the NBA and at that point we will know what the team missed out on.

I don't mind folks talking 2014 draft. That was the plan all along.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

IMO, that team 4 years ago was 1 player away from making this team a contender. Had we stayed in the playoff hunt free agents would've seriously considered playing here because free agents want to play for winner's. The fans were loyal and are still supporting the team, so imagine if they kept the playoff team together, they wouldve probably recouped the money they were putting out. This team might be another 3-4 more years away from being a playoff team now.

I do like the Zeller pick also, I think you can play him and Biz together, I think that bringing in Ewing was because they knew they were getting a big man and he would be good as a teacher for the rookie and Biz.

I don't want a team like we had 4 years ago, but this talk of the 2014 draft is pretty dumb.

I think it is more about staying the course. We have not made any real strides to get a whole lot better through the draft. As long as we don't go nuts this year in FA and become a treadmill team I think we will be fine. We could use a wing and 4 and 5 at this point to be a really good team. Any of the guys listed in the top ten of next years draft could start for us right now.

No offense Pooty, but what is dumb is telling adults that they can't discuss whatever they choose. True a lot can and will happen between now and the next drafttalkinga about the future is what we do.

How about we stick to talking about our new Bobcat, Cody Zeller, in the Cody Zeller thread then?

sucks that the anti zeller draft party video has made it to front page yahoo. i feel bad for him. i hope this gives him extra motivation. he may not ever be a superstar, but he seems like an easy kid to root for. i hope this town backs him quickly. based on what i heard on the radio it seems like many are coming around. colin on wfnz did a great job of selling zeller to the fans yesterday. thank god bret jensen was on vacation and colin was filing in.

Zeller is not the first guy to get booed when he was drafted.

None taken. Me on the other hand just prefers to talk about the draft that just occurred and the guy we just drafted as opposed to tanking and the 2014 draft, but that's just me.

I was reading a Rockets board and the booing thing was on there. The posters made some interesting points.

This draft some Cleveland fans booed the Bennett pick.
Long ago the Robert Horry pick was roundly booed in Houston.

There were some good insight "Greg Oden still has an impact."

And this "Those people are going to look stupid when he turns out to be a good player. "

Yeah there was negative, jokes about Bobcat fans being trolled and whatnot. But overall that thread was one of the things that made me feel a bit better. This in particular:

That vid (and the Cleveland one too) is not indicative the knowledge-base of Charlotte basketball. No more than a lot of ignorant Pacer fans booed the **** out of Reggie Miller being drafted over Steve Alford. Not that Zeller will or won't be of similar value - you never know.

There is something that has confounded the **** out of the Bobcats fanbase since Cho arrived which is that you get NO FREAKING IDEA what they are thinking before they do it. Therefore, casual fans are going to freak out when the franchise picks a guy THEY haven't heard touted on local or national press one bit. A lot of casual fans went bat**** crazy we didn't select Thomas Robinson last year w/ the #2 pick .... kinda think that was a rather prescient oversight.

And note that Jordan plays no role in these selections; it's all on Cho.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I'm not happy about the Zeller pick yet (but coming around). However, the same people probably cheered for Sean May lol

But then people get pissy when others don't like the pick. If people want to discuss the pick that is fine but you cannot get mad when people don't like that he was draft 5 spots to high.

most fans are lemmings when it comes to drafts. had zeller been 1 on mocks all year with noel at 4 and mclemore 5, the reaction would have been completely different. its all about perception. how many of those fans really scouted all 3 players enough to really have an informed idea of which one was the better prospect?

If a role player had been ranked #1 this draft would have been knocked even more than it was. The guys with the best upside are always ranked higher if they have some solid base to start with. Having such a small ceiling for a number one pick would have destroyed the perception of this draft.
