Nate Wolters, South Dakota State – Most college basketball fans know about Wolters because he has been lighting it up at South Dakota State for the past three seasons. The 22-year-old guard shouldn’t have a problem translating his game to the NBA because he is the epitome of a gym rat. When he played with the Jackrabbits, he would spend the majority of his time working out and trying to improve his game. He’s doing the same thing at the IMG Basketball Academy in Bradenton, FL, where he’s training for the draft. The coaches at IMG rave about Wolters because he often does four to five workouts each day. The team that drafts Wolters will never have to complain about his work ethic because the guy has an unwavering competitive nature and he’s constantly trying to become a better player. Wolters will play point guard in the league and, at 6’5, he has great size for the position. He’s a great scorer, as he showed in college, and an underrated facilitator. It’s not hard to imagine a team falling in love with him after having him at their facility.

First two in the article for sleepers were Wolters and Yanni.

Good news on Wolter's work ethic. Also, going through IMG's program certainly seems to have benefited Larry Sanders, so let's hope for some useful impact for Wolter's too. Most write-ups give him high marks for BB IQ too.

Not feeling the Wolters love. Average length, low release, slow; feel like his floor and ceiling is bench facilitator.

If his ceiling is Beno Udrih, I'm OK with that. I think many of us on doing some more homework on him, are more optimistic about his ability than we were last night.

SDSU grad here. Watched a ton of Jackrabbits games. Hard to say where his bb peak is going to be, but he won't ever fail from the lack of trying. You guys seem to have a good handle on who he is, I think what gets overlooked is his control. Both of his body and tempo of the game. Michigan game be damned, every time we played a big school it was the same response from the opposing coach.. "Holy cow! We heard about him and saw some tape but we didn't know"

Guess I need to get a new favorite NBA team now.

Considering 2nd rounders rarely pan out is that horrible? Let's wait for a year or two before we decide what his ceiling is though.

The Rockets are a good choice.

I was hyped on the "Ledo" name and potential... but the guy couldn't even play college ball!

Sure, he was a Mickey D guy, but with the all college tutors, mentors, and absolutely no intention of continuing a college education... How, is it possible not to get by in your first semester... get some b.s. classes that are super easy writing, art, intro comp sci, African Studies, film appreciation, music, etc... This guy either doesn't care, or has no drive/focus whatsoever. Just another cat with entitlement and money on his mind. None of the high schools, he went to, would/could keep him. I presume the previous vs. the later is correct.

I believe it is fair to say that everyone attempted to coddle and pacify this guy. With that said, he probably would have never worked out in Mil, let alone gave any credible effort. Sometimes you have to go with a team guy when the culture is broken... The last season, especially post trade deadline should be indicative of that. No need to throw gasoline on a potential fire.

We have a coach, that has some history as a consistent winner. I don't expect lightning in a bottle with Wolters, but I think this is a good move.

Keep the front court, dangle Illy, and BJ at the trade deadline. Sign Devin Harris, he wouldn't mind being here. Work on having MJD around here for next year.

BTW... I was just looking at salaries, was Beno getting $7 mil+ last year?

Grab a SF that can create and score and indoctrinate ADE into the NBA (Iggy for 2-3yrs?) and add serviceable 2g that can play some defense. Hopefully Moute regains his health and garners some attention around the deadline too.

It is a potential tank move, but a more offensive team. BJ, if resigned, should 'have it all' and play like it, if, he wants to move... and give him that opportunity. I really like Illy, and might hate to see him go, but he is an asset that could be utilized.

We could dump a bunch of salary at the deadline, have a respected coach, some great young guys with upside and desire to play well, and play here. Possibly, this team could really develop into a contender. I do not like to shove anyone under a bus, yet Ledo might get a nudge.... "It was a bad call Ripley, a bad call......"
I needs shades for this future thing we owning..... 8-) 8-) 8-)

It's not horrible; he's a good 2nd rd pick. It's not exciting either tbh. Like Beno signing wasn't exciting. :dontknow:

Cheers for the info.

Im still confused why he wasnt selected in the first round. He is a better player than most all of the first round right now.. and at 6'5 he should project pretty well to the NBA.

One of my friends moved from Sioux Falls to Milwaukee, so I know he'll have some additional interest in the Bucks. A couple years ago we were able to get SDSU student tickets and sit behind the bench when they played UWM here, that was cool. He's also a Packer fan so if you don't have a favorite NFL team at the moment you could go with that too. My friend said he grew up around mostly Vikings fans and couldn't stand it.

Seems like first round ball handling, shooting ability and size for position. Speed and ceiling?

Why am I not surprised this board encourages people to not be Bucks fans...?

Awesome, could be 20 spots between them in the end which makes a big difference.

So do the Bucks have two 2nd rounders next year? There own and the one from Dallas?

Yeah we have two but I believe the second one is a Nets 2nd not Dallas, pretty sure.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
