I can see us signing olders FAs now.
I know little about being a GM, however, when a good one acts, sometimes I'm able to understand what he did. When Bobby Cox started running the Braves, he signed Terry Pendleton, Rafael Belliard and Sid Bream, old vets, to lead the kiddies. Essentially, he set the vets before the prospects and said, "You youngsters can play when you play like they do and then beat them out."
By addressing our Center and PG needs, Ferry may now sign vets like Tiago Splitter and Kyle Lowry. We could either stash Bebe and Schroeder for a couple of years (they're both 19, after all) and let them learn in Europe or we could let them learn behind vets who play the right way.
Instead of tanking, the plan may be to start learning the right way to play NOW, then bring the top prospects we already have when they're ready . . . and hopefully add one or 2 top prospects as we go.
Seriously, one scenario may be for us to assemble a playoff-worthy (probably 1st round only) lineup like Lowry /Jenkins-Cunningham / Korver / Horford / Splitter and let the players grow. I'm not calling it Plan A but it may be the plan in case we strike out with Howard and Paul.

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Perhaps. I fear DF might be planning to tank for Wiggns if we strike out on Dwight and Christopher.

If Ferry gets Howard and Paul, he is going to load the bench with playoff experience vets.

so the plan basically has us in the same position as the last 2 seasons.... 1st round exit team with no room to get any better brilliant!

I dont really but the whole "tanking" to get a draft pick theory. Im sure its a factor in the back of a mind, but I think GMs would rather role the dice on assembling a roster worthy of winning then tanking for a superstar (that hasnt even played 1 College game yet).

I said we're swinging for the fences with Paul and Howard but don't you think we have a Plan B? If we strike out with the dynamic duo, I'm pretty sure Plan B will take us longer to contend.

As my OP suggested, if Nogueira and Schroeder make it, we'll have top talents at the 1, the 4 and the 5, supplemented by either a couple of expensive FAs or a deep bench.

TOR has an option on him. From what I read on their board, it seems likely they'll dump him. Of course, it may be I'm only hearing from the haters there.
However, Splitter and Lowry are examples, not predictions.

Re: I can see us signing olders FAs now.
Somebody has to eat up the cap space. The question is getting the right guys. I think DF's best option is to try and SnT Smith in a move that brings back expiring contract(s) and/or pick(s). One scenario is with BOS where we take back Humphries and a 1st or 2 for Smoove. BOS looks to be needing some help to get Josh and have a bunch of picks now, so it's a win-win for both teams. There will also be some guys that we can sign to short deals/deals with options like Korver, Zaza, & Stevenson (for example) who we bring back to fill the roster.
I would just avoid players like Ellis and Jefferson because I don't believe they are going to help this team get to the top much like how JJ didn't. I'd rather see us, if not getting CP3 and/or D12, take the conservative approach and sign/trade-for players that are not long term investments. Build through the draft and maintain flexibility so that we can have options to go after a big name or build around a gem should we unearth one in the draft.

Tyreke is ONLY 23 and could keep us a playoff team while bridging the gap to the younger players in Lucas and Denny. One thing we missed last season was a player capable of creating his own shot. Tyreke could definitely provide this.
He just needs to be coached in the SAS way of unselfish play.
I like this idea.

Well, we don't have a SF, so maybe you've got something.
Depends on the price, right?

Re: I can see us signing olders FAs now.
I don't know about Evans. He be ok considering he probably would come for a reasonable amount, but I worry about him being too much like JJ less the shooting ability. Plus, he's never shown much interest in playing defense. Perhaps he can change, but I don't see that being likely because defense is about effort which is an attitude thing. If Coach Bud can get him to work, then maybe so. I'd rather have Iggy who's much more consistent and you know what you're getting. Ideally, I want a guy like Kawhi Leonard who has energy, effort, defense, and some shooting. Evans has great upside, but I worry that he just won't get how to be a team player and make the most of his abilities.

Evans will never show potential in Sacramento until the organization starts to turn things around. Its just a bad environment all around. Evans could really use a change of scenery..

^indeed. sactown is such a mess. And with Jimmer Fredette and now Ben McLemore on the roster, Tyreke will likely be shown the door.
SAS always had an eye open for reclamation projects that could fill a need. TYreke could be one of those. Like OJ Mayo, Boris Diaw, Stephen Jckson, Danny Green, etc.

We can't add F.A. if the plan is to get both Howard and Paul, and it would require a sign-&-trade of Teague now that he got a Q.O.
If it's only Howard, and maybe keep Josh (for less than what Paul could ask), then you can sign one guy, but I suspect good veterans to ask more if teams has cap space, than if team don't have because they are already full of good player and a contender.
There's another point : if we sign a F.A., it means we use cap space, so we renounce our F.A.s and exception., and can't go back to stay above the cap and get guys with sign-&-trades

We never had a shot at Dwight or CP3.
We have to spend some of our cap space per the CBA. Best plan is to load up on productive 2nd tier Free Agents.
