Re: Post Lottery Draft Thread II
Just because we didn't trade up doesn't mean we didn't try. You don't know what we would've had to give up to trade up or if anyone was even willing to. NO had a deal for Holiday so they weren't going to trade with us, Sacremento obviously wasn't going to trade. No one else traded even though the teams that reached (CLE, CHA) probably could have. What that tells me is that they were either uninterested in trading down or asking for too much.

So what was the point of Dumars' smokescreen? This is more after-draft spin to make a mediocre pick by Dumars look like a great one.

Kevin Love wants out of Minnesota. Maybe they would have made a larger trade around him. You don't know. Maybe this is "after-draft spin", maybe it isn't.

Re: Post Lottery Draft Thread II
Joe D didnt see much seperation between Mclemore/KCP, which is why he didn't try to trade up. It wouldve been moot anyway since SAC really wanted Mclemore and NOH had a trade in place with PHI
Draft isnt about hype its about talent. You cant tell me that you watched ever single Kansas game and every single Georgia game and think that Mclemore is head and shoulders above KCP.
This is the same Monroe/Cousins crap from 2010 all over again

The advanced stat guys consistently (I think consistently) rank KCP ahead of McLemore. I really don't know why teams would rank McLemore higher. I watched him play quite a few times - or tried to watch him. Unfortunately, since he was so unassertive, the camera didn't follow him all that often. I think KCP is as good as (or close to as good as) an athlete: he tests out faster and with better agility, and I like his game better than I like McLemore's. McLemore is a more explosive leaper, but I think agility is more important for a SG, and KCP is all over McLemore on the agility tests. Is this love for McLemore due to the fact that he's younger (by a year)?
When I watch KCP's draft video, which is the only source I've got to compare, it sure seems like he has an all-around game that's perfect for a team with Drummond and Monroe. He's great - simply great - at creating space to get his fantastic jump shots off from all over the court. I imagine who he'll be in a couple seasons working with Kander and pro coaches. And I love that he's a high energy guy who prides himself on D.
To me, I can't see being anything but scared over drafting a guy like McLemore, for whom there are major heart and will considerations.

Wow - obviously, I got that wrong. Then I totally don't get the idea that McLemore's better than KCP. In fact, IMO, that puts KCP ahead of McLemore as a prospect.

Advanced
Ben Mclemore: 23 PER, 63 TS,13% Assist, 9% Rebound, 14% TO, 1.8% Steals
Caldwell-Pope: 27 PER, 58 TS, 17% Assist, 13 % Rebound, 11% TO, 3.8% Steals
Mclemore is a more efficient scorer on less volume, KCP has more killer instinct and is more well rounded. We will have to see how it plays out the next few seasons. But, Im happy with KCP and I think both will be better than Oladipo and significantly better than Shabazz.

I'm reserving judgement on KCP and the pick. I was furious on draft night but I'm going to give it some time before being upset again. Still, I was hoping the Kings would take Mclemore. I've never been high on him.

Re: Post Lottery Draft Thread II
I'll admit I wanted Mclemore as well as well on draft night as I'd only seen kcp play about 5 games. Hell, he wasn't even in my top 10 on my big board, but if you dig a little deeper and strip away the bad team KCP played on, ignore how overrated leaping ability is, and focus on motor, KCP is the better pick.

Re: Post Lottery Draft Thread II
I've been talking about Kcp since January, long before the vast majority of ppl here. KCP was #5 on my big board going into the draft and both are well documented on this board. So anyone who suggests that this is Piston homerism, clearly hasn't been paying attention.

It's funny you say that, I secretly wanted CJM more than Mac but I could understand not taking a risk like that. Im hoping for the best from KCP but I think his talent level is with Crabbe, Snell, Franklin, Bullock etc. Good players but mid-to-late 1st rounders. When I hear him speak it's hard for me to say "This is the guy that will lead us to the next level" same with McLemore. It's not a intelligence thing as much as it's a confidence thing. I think CJ was the type of guy that could have gotten his jersey retired here.

Derrick Rose speaks the exact same way.

I was a bit more blatant in that regard and was bummed we passed him over. I am certainly willing to give KCP a fair chance now that he is on our team of course.
T Mitchell I have been interested in for more than a year so was happy to see us snag him in the 2nd round. Hope he can get his act together cuz he mos def has some talent.

the crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe

I was actually surprised when KCP was taken. I didn't believe Dumars was taking Burke for a second, but I did believe he would take McCollum.
Mitchell is a great low risk/high reward pick. Hopefully Joe ties him up for at least 3 years, like Middleton.

post-draft spin? If you go to the mock draft board, there are a couple threads where posters (not from the Pistons board), making a case that KCP should be the first guard taken in the draft due to his advanced stats. [prior to the draft taking place]
The other thing to point out between KCP and Mac, KCP didn't have a single teammate in Georgia that averaged over 8 points a game, he was alone on an island on offense and still managed to post a respectable level of efficiency and still compete on defense.
Mac was starting with 4 other seniors that had a lot of experience. I'm not going to knock Mac for putting himself in a good position to succeed, the kid needed a break in life. But, he was certainly in a more advantageous situation to pick and choose when he shot the ball and when he deferred (which was a lot).
