This is relieving to hear...though wonder how MDA feels if he's surrounded by PJ's guys?

While I want to keep Dwight, and would welcome a return of Phil, if Mike's our coach next season, I'd want to at least have everyone on the same page.

Can't contend if fractured. Regardless, nice to see a familiar face in the mix.

Interesting news if true. Rambis is best as a defensive coordinator of sorts and his knowledge of the triangle with this core group of guys should help MDA with some of his offensive sets as well next year. For all you guys screaming Phil, I would say he probably did have some input, but MDA is the one who decides who goes on his staff so if Kurt becomes an assistant it would be his call ultimately.

I thought Rambis' main job on PHil's team was to babysit Bynum. The guys who were worth a bit were Shaw, CLeamons and Craig Hodges. I think MDA is struggling to find guys that will work under him now, Gentry has been passed up for money, Nate chose to work with Vogel and Madsen has been fast tracked or whatever and if this goes on like this, the next two guys will be Mychael Thompson and Robert Horry. Basically people who have been hanging around broadcasting stations in LA.

I'll care if and when he's hired, but it sorta feels like a shout out to Dwight hinting that Phil may come back.

I have a hunch, nobody's getting hired until they know what's up with Dwight or they feel they've given him as much time as they can to decide.

You really think this hasn't been a MDA has been having trouble getting guys that he chose (Gentry/Nate) and came to the Lakers and they suggested Rambis (either by literal suggestion or merely as others have said he's around the team all the time, Rambis is family).

In a vacuum, I don't think MDA would hire Rambis, especially since he's been a vocal critic of MDA and his coaching the past year. You really think this idea is purely Mike's? If it is, he's either trying to appease the Lakers or Dwight or he has been influenced....

And thus my point, why hire a coach if you're not going all in on his gameplan?

Rambis has been extremely vocal against MDA this year. This is definitely not a MDA move.

I know Denver hired him already but I would have prefered shaw. He'll I'd take coach Karl right about now. The real prize is Phil Jackson.

Because they never were all in to begin with, of course. Sure, you can look at the roster and corresponding payroll and say otherwise, but I don't think you'd find very many credible people here would argue choosing MDA over Phil was consistent with that.

In fact, if this report is actually true, it's much more in line with that Yardbarker "scoop" from a few days ago. With multiple primary sources verifying Phil's ongoing involvement with the organization, I personally don't find it so hard to believe the idea Busschak not only wants to reassure Dwight next year's team will feature more post play and defense but also quietly force MDA out if worse comes to worst.
