State of the Nuggets

I wanted to be patient and see how Josh Kroenke was going to mold this organization:

Let’s review last year –
Coach of the year
Executive of the year
Franchise record for games won for season
Franchise record for consecutive games won
3rd seed in playoffs
3rd youngest team in NBA
Lost in 1st round of playoffs
Most of the players have been on roster less than 2 years

Next year we will have:
First time head coach
First time general manager
How many games won for season will make you happy (57? 54? 50?)
What seed do you expect next year? If the Nuggets do not have home court and lose in the first round again, is that ok?
Will the Nuggets still have one of the youngest teams and should they?

Right now, I see the Nuggets getting older, worse, and having less shot at winning a playoff series. I don’t understand why we would blow up the third youngest team that also was the third seed, but I’m not Josh Kroenke.

I feel like you're jumping to a lot of conclusions just off of one trade. Give it time, it probably won't be as bad as you think now.

Is this a joke? Blow up the team? Are you delusional?

There's has been ONE trade..one player. Thats it. If Iggy resigns we're essentially the same team as last year but with more experience playing together. Plus we now have a fresh new coach with a fresher outlook focused on developing our young talent.

We're in a fantastic position right now for the future. Get your head out of your ass.

The trade really makes a lot of sense if you think about it.

Shaw is trying to bring an offensive system that does more than just run. Koufos does not have any offensive ability other than putbacks. Hell we were never able to run pick and rolls with that guy. He's an average defender at best.

Mozgov and Arthur on the other hand have skill sets that are more valuable in a system oriented offense.

simply couldn't afford to keep ujiri.

getting rid of karl was the right move 100%. too many playoff failures and excuses. the only way to make him a non-lame-duck coach with any pull on the players was to give him an extension. that would have been a far worse move.

signing shaw was the perfect move for this team. he's about as highly regarded around the league as you can get for a first time coach. and to have all his life experience, championship experience....etc, with a group of young guys. it's gonna be great.

darrell arthur is 1 year older than KK. not sure where the whole age hysteria is coming from.
heck....if iguodala leaves, we get way younger by virtue of fournier/hamilton filling the void.

i expect miller to be dealt sometime before the trade deadline to make us younger....with more guys who can shoot...and less guys with whiny issues.

aside from that there's too many questionmarks to make a prediction on where this team will be.
gallo's recovery & the iguodala situation being the most crucial.

i highly doubt they exceed 57 wins with most things going right, and i won't be unhappy with that.
if gallo takes all year to come back, or comes back and is at 60%...and iguodala walks....then i don't think .500 basketball is out of the question.

i want to see lawson/mcgee/fournier/hamilton develop as players. i want to see a halfcourt system that stands up to playoff pressure and can score against it. and a defense that competes at a playoff level with the knowledge of it as well.

i don't think i'll be disappointed. the wins & playoff victories will take care of themselves if that happens.

I don't understand the logic.

I would assume that Shaw, with the same team, should be able to produce a first round playoff series win. Isn't that why Karl was fired? Why it's it ok for Shaw to have a 500 record and first round exit, but Karl breaks franchise record for wins immediately through and after the melo debacle,
but gets fired.
Also, it's not just me and it wasn't just one trade. The nuggets are almost universally regarded as having the worst performance on draft night. Just last year we had coach and executive of year. What will it take for you to have concerns?

I think the nuggets were a fortunate trade away from seriously contending and masai had us ready to take advantage of any opportunity. I don't understand why we are taking steps backward.

The kroenkes could not or would not afford to have one of the higher paid gms in the league. Same reason they won't match iguodalas contract if Atlanta throws him an offer that they think is above market value. Josh would rather take his chances on a different player (or in this case gm).

We know what we get with Karl. Lots of regular season wins, and fun fast paced basketball. But terrible playoff performances after terrible playoff performances. Where's the logic in keeping that?

If shaw had exactly the same team with the same health going into this season I'd expect mid 50s wins and definitely a round 1 playoff win if they drew a lower seeded team without one of their starters. But the roster and injury statuses are still up in the air, so I cant have that expectation. If iguodala leaves and gallos out for a long time, and Karl had not been fired.... I wouldn't expect him to get near 57 wins again either.

Plus I think shaws gonna make coaching errors that a guy with 1000something wins wouldn't. And I accept that because I think his ideologies as a coach will ultimately lead to more playoff success as compared to Karl. But that may not take just 9 months to happen... Which is okay in the big picture with a young team.

If the Nuggets plan to retain Mozgov... then they really need to focus on filling holes. that'd be a back-up PG guard and the Nuggets could use a real 2 guard.

Hope they look at dumping Andre Miller and S&Ts around Iggy rather than bringing him back. Sending him to Portland probably helps them keep LaMarcus and it could net us Wes Mathews back.

Maybe they get Iggy, Dre, Randolph... we get Wes, Freeland, and CJ.

With the recent Bargnani to NYK trade, the 2016 (and possibly 2014 since Bargnani is one of the worst players in the league) pick has just increased in value

McGee-Mosgov

I expect your bigs to improve. Why doesn't A.Randolph play? & Is Hamilton any good? I like Founier's game, but idk about Hamilton.

They only thing I worry about Denver is a top 4 seed in the West your ceiling? Can you guys make that next push to legitimate contender? Idk. I think you guys have the talent, but i'm an optimistic person.

Yeah, feels totally fine. Just... Iguodala is free agent. Gallinari out for at least january. Mozgov cannot set single screen without moving his feet and fauling. JaVale is... JaVale... I'm afraid 6-8 seed is the best Nuggets can do. And to do it Shaw must show very strong first year as a head coach.

Why doesn't Randolph play? Beacuse he can't play NBA basketball, easy. He just doesn't understand what to do on court.
Don't ask about Hamilton. Here are some very funny loonies who think he's future all-star caliber. Despite he is terrible defender and has no ball handling skills. Yeah and thinks he needs to shoot every time he touches a basketball.

What nuggets should do

Resign movgov

Resign brewer ( at reasonable price)

Sign a shooter for vet minimum ...maybe anthony morrow?

sign and trade for monta Ellis.

Andre miller + 2 second rounders or a lottery protected future first

Being Ellis off the bench as 6 man. Somewhat like what spurs do with Manu.

Start Fournier at the 2... Showed promise last season. Espically vs nets

I like that plan. Would give the Nuggs a roster of:

McGee/ Mozgov (If he doesn't leave for Russia)
Faried/ Hickson/ Arthur
Gallo/ Chandler/ Randolph
Fournier/ Brewer
Lawson/ Ellis

Solid line-up. Lawson/Ellis backcourt at times could be nice change of pace
