Why would a rebuilding team give up a first while trading away an all star?

Celtic fan here, none of these offers are getting you close to a healthy Rondo. (Assuming that's when he'll actually be traded, if he is.)

The only way Rondo is coming to Detroit is for a package like Monroe/Stucky. We don't want Knight. He is a combo guard best off the bench and couldn't even start for a lottery team. Why would we trade an all-star with him as the centerpiece?

Also, rebuilding does not mean tanking. Boston is certainly not a contender but they have too much talent to become a bottom feeder and Danny has already stated he has no interest in selling off all of his talent on the cheap so he can get deeper into the lottery. It's just terrible business.

Don't mean to come of harsh if I did.

Wait, Knight didn't start for the Pistons? That's news to me.

Rondo is a massively overrated guard in this league. I hate his attitude - and the only reason he could exist on your Boston team was because KG and Pierce owned that team. Rondo without those guys is a fast-moving cancer.

I hate that he's a lousy shooter. I hate that he plays for his own statistics, and not always for his team's benefit.

You can keep that clown. Especially, you can keep that clown coming off a serious knee injury.

They had no reason to keep Garnett/Pierce because they were old. I'm sure that if they could get a good deal for Green/Rondo, they'll do it, but "Singler + CAP SPACE!!!!!!" and "Knight + CAPPPPP SPACEEE!" isn't going to get jack squat. You have people on the Celtics board who don't want to trade Green for MKG, who is 10x the player Singler is now, and probably a ton better in the future. Everyone except Chip should be happy that Celtic fans don't come to this forum or they'd laugh at all of you for eternity.

C's fan here...and i agree. none of those packages would get you anything besides being hung up on. c's are going to trade rondo now anyways. they have to wait till he shows he's healthy, so his value gets back to what is was pre injury.....then trade for the best option.

If the C's are truly going to commit to rebuilding they are going to need to tank hard next season and pray for pick #1 and stock pile other draft picks/players on rookie contracts. They also need to dump their bigger salaries and have cap space to build around their future rookies.

Jeff Green, Rondo, Bass and Lee are expensive and long contracts that have no place on a rebuilding team.

If the pistons offered.....

Stuckey, CV, Knight and Singler

for

Rondo, Green, Bass and Lee

The Celtics would have to consider it. That's like 30mil off the books next season.

No they wouldn't. You aren't getting an asset like Green or especially an elite point like Rondo for our garbage. If they want to tank hard they'll trade them for real assets like number ones, not limited players or second rounders.

Like so many of his proposals, the OP has made ridiculously lopsided deals for the Pistons.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

If you don't think they're tanking then you're in denial. Do you not remember the mockery known as 2006-2007? I don't think we're getting Rondo. I can see a team like the raptors offering a 2014 pick + lowry/ross for him and overpaying. Detroit won't do that. I do however see Green as extendable if he is traded alongside a bad contract.

Boston fan off the Boston board - quick suspend them, like their mods treat any non-Boston fan on their boards.
