definitely. asik would be a hot item on the market. and the rockets want to win a chip by landing howard. no way they trade him to the heat

to make an analogy it would be like the dolphins trading mike wallace to the bucs for revis. sure you got an explosive wideout but now when you play the dolphins you have a guy you traded that can stop him so it negates the deal. im not saying asik can stop howard but you get the jist of it

It'll make a ton of sense once Mickey sees that luxury tax bill for over $30 million.

Mickey is a smart man and paying 8 million for Joel to ride the bench isn't smart. MM has some value in the league and could be used for a trade down the road, Joel has none. If some how Riley can bring back Bird & sign Oden, we would be in business. Riley outside of 2007 always looks to add one or two new faces to the team. This team knows it going for something special but you need to add fresh blood to the lockerrom and a few new faces that give the rest of the team an idea of how lucky they are.

Your hatred of Joel notwithstanding Joel will have by far the most value as an expiring contract next year. This literally is our last chance to get a big money guy in the Big 3 era. To waste our expirings just to save cash would be dumb on so many levels.

I love what Mike does for the team. But he basically gets paid just for the playoffs and for spacing. But he's earned his stripes. Joel....I'd rather his cash be used elsewhere...Would rather Oden sit on the bench all year and be used for the playoffs.

Wait until next year when they are 10 mil in expiring, then trade them

The issue is the luxury tax. While there contract have value, it also mean that were taking on a player with that contract, something Mickey is more than likely veto. We need to cut the fat & get rid of Joel. MM still has value in the league, no need to amnesty now.

Again to waste our only opportunity to get a big money guy next to the Big 3 is foolhardy. You go for the dynasty when you have the opportunity. The value of the franchise will skyrocket.

I agree with holding him and trading him later but were not the one's righting the checks. Everything we read and I hear is that Mickey would prefer to lower the tax bill on this team. Mickey is ok paying it but not for a player that is bringing nothing and the player we would trade for a year from now, would be a player that another team is trying to dump, far from a building type move. I would drop Joel this year as its the last year to use the amnesty and hold MM for a trade down the road.

It just takes one injury and we need Joel to play. Mickey is writing the checks but he is also making it all back. If we have a crazy stretch from here, the team will be worth so much more. It would be pennywise and pound foolish to no try to trade a MM + Joel + other expirings for a big money guy next season. It doesn't have to be a guy that a team wants to dump, you can do a lot with expirings.

I'm thinking Camby gets bought out for sure. (no evidence that it will happen, just a hunch)

Here's a statement from Marcus Camby (via agent Rick Kaplan to ESPNNewYork.com) regarding the pending trade of Camby and Steve Novak to Toronto for Andrea Bargnani:

"It's unfortunate that I wasn't given a meaningful opportunity to contribute last season in New York. I was really looking forward to the upcoming year as a chance to show the organization what they missed out on last year, and pushing our team towards the Finals.

"I have nothing but positive things to say about the city of Toronto and its great fans, having been drafted by the Raptors 17 years ago. Given that my goal at this point in my career is to have a shot at a championship, however, I'll have to evaluate my options going forward. I've enjoyed a great career, and under the right circumstances I hope to continue making an impact in the league."

Camby, 39, played just 24 games in 2012-13, averaging 10.4 minutes.

Would we want him at all at this point?

I'm hearing that knicks are interested in monta ellis and even though unlikely, he may take a pay cut to play with a contender. Via bleacherreport

Wtf, all they can give is the mini mle. That would mean we would be in game for him also, right?

Sounds completely ridiculous though.

Haha, no way Monta "I am the same as Dwyane Wade" Ellis leaves a single dollar on the table.

Ellis is so bad and he'll be awful for New York. He's JR Smith without a jumpshot

Our center rotation aside from the 15 mins Birdman plays is pure feces. We can't be bitter and slighted. It nearly cost us the title this season (twice) and last season. If Camby can still provide elite rebounding and good post defense I would definitely want him, especially since we have Howard who does nothing on our bench.

Why: We save a few million and get a mobile center that has show some potential.
Why: GS gets another shooter & mobile center that can defend

To me, this year is all about finding some size for this team. We got away with it again this year but every year were finding ourselfs making it harder then it should. We need someone that can bang down low and bring 5 fouls to the other teams in the EAST. Don't forget Birdman is 35, UD is getting old & Battier could retire next season. We need to find someone that understands our D.

People against this are crazy. I would do this any day. He is a legit 7'0 240 pounder who is a nice rebounder, 27, and is a legit scoring option. Though I amnot sure they would do it for the trash we are giving them.

Miller fits their offence well, and Joel would be sufficient as a 3rd big behind Bogut/Ezuli. Huge issue is that it locks up more future $.

:o

Maybe you didn't see him in the last few years, there is a reason why Ezili that is a good defender but has butter hands his playing and Biedrins is not.

There is a reason why biedrens hasn't played in front of anyone. Rothstein wuld be put on the court before him.

Biedrins does nothing for me. He's totally inept offensively, he's too weak defensively, and he's happy to just sit on a bench and collect a check. If he were available at the minimum, okay. But he's not worth proposing no-chance hypothetical trades over.

I'm all about adding to the core. I hate thinking too far ahead with a contender, but we do need to consider 2014-2015 as well. Aside from the Big 3 possibly opting out, we're going to have to resign Chalmers and reload our bench with Allen and Battier likely retiring. It would be nice if we had some fixtures at center so we're not out hunting for 4 new rotation players all at once. I'd love to be proactive and nab a wing now, but I doubt a guy like Dorell Wright is going to want to sit on the bench for a year before he gets a shot.

Lock up Birdman for a couple more years, add Oden, Kaman, or Dalembert on a 2-year deal, and we can go into next offseason just worried about keeping our guys and maybe dealing Miller/Joel for a new face off the bench.

Taking over the Sioux Falls Skyforce team is making a ton of sense right now.

We could use that team to give promising young players some real playing time and devlope the skills we need from them. At the same time, we won't have them on our payroll (or our roster) but we'll still controll their development, keep a close eye on their progress, and offer them an option to play ball, make money, and still have a shot of joining the Heat next year, or the year after that.

We got some real intersting prospects on our summer league team, i think we'll pick up 1 or 2 to the roster this year, and hopefully send few others to devlope with Skyforce for next year's roster when we'll have alot of open roster spots.
