Very interesting possibility. He'd probably require the full MLE, leaving little recourse to signing a backup PG.

I'm not seeing it. We have that kill set, twice over in fact (Lance Stephenon and Orlando Johnson). We passed on Jamal Franklin (the same player on a rookie contract).

Back to Alen, how many wings do we need? You've got a solid three man rotation with Granger, George and Stephenson. We've got Orlando Johnson and just drafted Hill.

The money I would think Allen commands should be allocated to a backup pg.

I'd fully welcome Tony Allen and give him the starting job over Lance on our team. It'd allow Lance to come off the bench and be the scoring boost alongside Granger there.

That said, it leaves little offense on the starting lineup, and I honestly think we might have TOO much defense then,

Seems odd that their looking at Allen and Budinger and drafted a 3. Could signal a few things:

1. Granger trade

2. Intent to resign Tyler - doesn't seem we are looking at bigs and unless their confident Plumlee or Pendergraph can consistently play above average, Tyler needs to be resigned. It makes sense, seeing as how there does not seem to be many decent and cheap free agent bigs.

3. Another smaller trade - something like Green and 14 first for Ridnour.

Realistically, we could end up with a team looking like this:

Hill/Ridnour
Allen/Stephenson
George/Granger
West/Hansbrough
Hibbert/Mahinmi

That team is legitimately 2 deep at every position and has size throughout. That doesn't even factor in Johsnon, Plumlee (if he does anything), or Pendergraph (if we resign him). Allen mentoring Stephenson defensively would be great as they both have similar builds/styles.

That starting lineup would be incredible defensively. I think they'd be fine scoring, but it wouldn't matter because they would be able to consistently hold opponents below 20 points a quarter.

Im on board with this move. I think Tony Allen and Stephenson would both come off the bench if he is signed. Or maybe they will trade Granger at some point after this acquisition during the season. Either way I love the idea of the wings potential ability to completely disrupt and shutdown the opposing teams wings. This defensive wing combo could potentially be more stagnating than the Artest years with Tony Allen and Paul George. Add in the fact that George Hill is going to play in the Team USA minicamp and this team could be scary good next season.

Hill/????
George/Stephenson
Granger/Allen/Hill
West/Plumlee
Hibbert/Mahinmi

Larry made it clear that he has no intentions in trading Granger, so it could be Green. And if Allen comes in, it could mean we have to part ways with Sam Young.

I wouldn't mind Tony Allen as he can impact the court even without a legit offensive game. But then again we need to get rid of some wings if we are to acquire more wingmen.

Not sure if we need another wing. We have too many especially after drafting S.Hill.
I'd rather we focus on a backup point guard. That is an area of need for then another wing

I think Danny and Solo could find minutes at stretch 4 many nights. I'm not really sure we hope to bring Tyler back, nor that he wants to be back as a backup. He's looking for a starting spot.

I"ve thought all along that Granger should get minutes at the 4 when he returns. A rotation of George, West, and Granger at the 3 and 4 would give Danny plenty of minutes. It would also assure you of having two of those three on the floor all the time. I'd think that would have to make the bench much more effective.

I don't think the fact that rumors have started about wings implies that we aren't looking for Tyler or AJ replacements. we're still in the first 12 hours of free agency. give it time.

I fully expect them to get to replacing DJ. Some of these guys like Darren Collison will probably have to see where their value shakes out and if any teams see them as starters, paid accordingly. Once that shakes out opportunties like ours can be matched with what's left.

When I see us talking to both Allen and Budinger (if that indeed is true) it does make me wonder if something else is up? Not sure we need either of them if Granger returns.

Bird just confirmed at the Solo press conference that the team is looking at a couple wings as free agents and thats its obvious that the team needs a backup point guard. I would say based off that comment that its likely they are entertaining the thought of signing one of them. He didnt mention backup bigs meaning they may be expecting to use Plumlee with maybe Granger/Hill picking up the additional minutes at the 4 behind West.
