313 Is Back! Stuckey + JR Smith + WOW

Ok first off, I want to say that I really miss posting on this board and miss talking to educated Pistons fans, but honestly as much as I love the Pistons as long as Rodney Stuckey was on the roster in a prominent role the Pistons were never gonna be any good. There has really been nothing to say the past couple years. I talked about it as much as I could but everybody wanted to believe in Stuckey because he was young and..... FINALLY it seems that people can see the light!

But NOW!!! Wow

The Pistons have flexibility to be somebody again!

I cant wait to see how everything plays out but JR SMITH & MONTA ELLIS really catch my attention in this FA class. The only players I respect on our roster as championship caliber players are Jose, Greg, Drummond, & KCP (Serious 3pt/attack the closeout & finish potential). What we need is a consistent ability to create a shot in the halfcourt offense. B Knight will NEVER be that guy because he's not Kemba, and Stuckey is Stuckey.

The thing about Josh Smith & Iggy is that they are good defensively, but they aren't all-around offensive threats enough to warrant the money they'll get. I'll be happy with Iggy but his 3-ball, & in-between scoring off-the-dribble/in the post in mid range game just isn't good enough for all that cake. Josh Smith is blackhole-ish offensively and doesn't spread the floor.

I think JR Smith is close to being ready to be the guy for a team offensively. His chucker & immature past is the reason he'll come cheaper too. He WILL need a 2nd threat to go with him because he's not good enough to be a one-man show but at the end of the day he will ALWAYS stretch the floor. His in-between game has come far & he's taking it to the rack now & finishing with more consistency. A Calderon, KCP, Smith, Monroe, Drummond lineup stretches the floor which JR needs for more room to create because his handle aint the best, and KCP & Monroe need this as well.

With gettin JR we have shooting & an offensive weapon. After that we'll need another weapon & defense. If we could pull of JR & Monta & bring one of Monta or JR off the bench we will be set. Monta Ellis is good with the ball in his hands. With Calderon, KCP, Knight & JR he will ALWAYS have shooting around him, and can run pick & roll w/Monroe w/space to get his own, get Monroe a good look or hit a shooter. We would be fluent offensively.

Then, defense. I like KCP's defensive potential, & JR is not bad when motivated. But after this we need to add a 3 that can lock up to match up with LeBron. I haven't really been on it cuz I've been busy but if we can add two cheaper guys who can defend after getting Monta & Jr our team will be set. If you watched Miami in the finals. SHOOTING allows facilitators to facilitate (Parker/LeBron). Monroe, JR, & Monta are not elite facilitators but if they have the space to operate with shooters around them & bigs that can finish they will be efficient. If the making the RIGHT play is always an option I can trust Monta & JR. They have SOOOOO much talent.

Matt Barnes is a solid SF defensive option. Plus he spreads the floor. Maybe Birdman or somebody like that to add to the big man rotation with some D

I think with the line-up we have no Joe D's off season spending will be adding a premier player at the wing spot and than a cheap back-up center. It's what I see Joe D possibly doing. I could also see one near max guy as well.

Iggy & Smith aren't worth all that cash that they'll ask for I don't think. They are great defenders no lie but Josh Smith is not efficient or complimentary offensively & Iggy is a good playmaker but he cant dominate scoring, and isn't good off the ball because he's inconsistent with the J. They are big names but idk man...

I'd rather have the talent and potential to be great, and put that talent in a great situation to succeed than go for a big name and some role players and just be a bottom end playoff team.

Like, would you rather give elite talent the opportunity to make good decisions or hope good talent making good decisions somehow develops elite talent?

We got trade pieces and money though so it better be a good offseason. JR Smith & Monta can score the rock. And they both spread the floor. On an offensively efficient team they won't "chuck." Surrounded by shooters and big men who can finish.

I like jr's game and think he could be a steal, but hy don't you think someone like him and Ellis will continue to take bad shots? Ellis is used to using possessions in a certain way, and having other options will simply limit the amount of possessions he uses in that way, it won't make him use the possessions in a better or more effective way. Right?

Well... he played six seasons before he joined the bucks and he was the same type of player. Lots of midrange shots of the dribble, lots of long 2s early in the shot clock. And as a former resident of the bay area, I can attest that lots and lots of Ellis's questionable shots aren't bail outs or end-of-the-clock jumpers. He's kind of like Russell Westbrook in that he always plays fast and is always very aggressive on offense, which often leads to him dribbling into a shot that is open and make able, but still not a good shot for him (also leads to a lot of turnovers).

Look, I like Ellis and think he's a really exciting player and he's not stupid or anything. It's just that the way he plays means being sort of single minded about scoring. Here's what John Hollinger said in a profile of Ellis a month before the trade to the Bucks (and during his best season as a pro): 'Ellis still takes ill-advised long jumpers early in the shot clock, though far less often than the previous seasons. Nonetheless, the jumper is a seductive temptress for Ellis that he should resist more often -- he shot 69.6 percent in the basket area, which is phenomenal for a player of his size, but worse than 38 percent from every other distance.' This was when Steph Curry and David Lee, two more efficient offensive players, started alongside him. I don't want to make this a fight over Ellis--i really do like him and think he'd be a great offensive sparkplug if the price was right. It just doesn't seem wise to assume an 8 year veteran will drastically change his game as soon as he puts on a pistons jersey.

If you could have had jr and monta combined salary at what iggy or j smooth are getting that's value. Both are quality pieces. Maybe those two are as valuable or a notch below as iggy and j smooth. But jr is gone so now I hope we get monta. He can be the most exciting player in the game to watch.
