HAHA, soWizards.

First, it was D-Sleezy getting scooped up for a vet minimum, then EG bids against himself for a 4 year deal. Now EG gets a bargin 1-year deal with Webster and gives him the full MLE for 4 years. In both instances EG turned a schrewd move into a "bid against no one" overpayment.

What's the point of drafting Porter?

Careful Raf, reporting the actual numbers will ruin the pity party. LOL

So it's essentially a 3 year MLE deal, with a team option for the 4th season for a guy that portends to be our 6th man and get minutes at 2 positions. Worst contract in the NBA, huh? Wow, guys...

Of course not, but obviously this board knows more than everyone in the league so any deal they don't approve of must be a bad deal.

So Ernie passes on Neol because he believes Porter was the better player/better fit for the team. Ok I can swallow the logic even if I dont agree... But if Ernie is trying to sell Porter as a core piece, why throw 22 mil at Martell? :x

WTF happened to 3 years, 10 mil? How did that become 4/22?

cottamit. I hate this sorry ass front office. this is one of those contracts that come to bite you in the ass in the longrun.

They added a $12 million 4th year poison pill so the Wizards wouldn't match. That EG's sly as a fox.

There goes our salary cap flexibility for 2014.

Somebody tell me, what exactly was the point of drafting Rice in light of that deal?

Webster and Rice will play different positions and though I'm not thrilled about the contract, you can't have enough shooters.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

The only team that could I think were serious contenders to get him were the Cavs.

But they just drafted a dead eye shooter from Russia? I think.

Why the need to do this? Why now? Why not let it play out some more? The could have gotten Marco Bellinelli from the Bulls if Webster cost too much.

Webster should get enough shots and minutes to average double digits off the bench - regardless of which stretch 4-type we get to replace Ariza.

Or, rather, if Webster doesn't average double digits as a 6th man, it won't be for lack of opportunity.

An incredibly dumb signing. Grunfeld is dumber than a box of rocks.

But he really likes us and wants to play here, so let's overpay him by 5+ million dollars.

And fwiw, Webster's people reportedly talked to at least one other team (Warriors) so it's not like we were the only team interested.

Pretty much what I've thought the plan should have been all along, retain Webster and use Ariza's expiring to improve the frontcourt. Looking forward to the rest of the offseason!

I recall seeing some rumblings about OKC being interested, but that might've just been speculation.

Wow, why so little? I'm sure we coulda done 4 years/48 million, right? I mean, heck if we're not negotiating with anyone, why not make the price as high as it could possibly be?

Oh wait, I guess we already did...

Honestly who cares? If a team wants to commit the full MLE to a role player let 'em, especially when you already drafted his replacement.

We could have easily went into the season with Ariza as the starter and Rice/Temple backing up the guard positions, and Porter as the SF.

In fact, given our roster composition, I would have felt far more comfortable extending Ariza, than overpaying for Webster.

Ernie has yet again pissed away cap flexibility in favor of signing players that have a marginal impact in the grand scheme of things.

**** bull, I'm so **** sick of this ****.

I mean....God forbid last season was a fluke and the Wizards find themselves in the Lottery. looking to draft one of the forwards Parker, Randle, James Young etc. (which dont get me wrong...you're getting a great young forward, but you just spent a lot of cash/picks on forwards the year before)

I really dont get the logic. Should have just rolled with Ariza/Webster (at a reduced rate) got Noel...let him sit and get healthy.

Find your real 3 man in the draft next year.

Now if Porter is the real deal.....then I guess oh well....You overpaid for Webster and hurt the cap. But at least you have a stud in Porter.

I actually have seen several teams interested in Webster.

It's an overpay. But, here's the saving grace. He backs two positions. So, is he better than the back-up SGs and SFs available at 2.7 a piece (that would come here)? Probably, but it's close. I'm on the fence on this one. Certainly not up in arms... yet. Could bite us in the ass. Could become a good trading piece.

Seriously. I'm sure plenty of teams were interested in Webster, but the gap between that and what we gave to retain him is as big as the hole in EG's head.
