Pretty much what I've thought the plan should have been all along, retain Webster and use Ariza's expiring to improve the frontcourt. Looking forward to the rest of the offseason!

If Ernie can swing Ariza+Some **** for any decent semblance of a front court player who can hit a mid range Jumper I'd be ok. I agree with everyone that we overpaid...what I don't understand is how people really thought 3/10 was realistic. That is a cheap **** deal. He's still a useful asset (webster)...albeit, unless he learns to rebound a bit better, a million dollar overpaid asset.

I'm curious as to what people think would have been a "realistic" offer. I think 3/15 or 4/18 would have been my max offer...I'd like to know how much partial money is in the 4th year. If its only half then 4/19 I can live with.

So why did we draft Rice again? Anyone? Anyone? I mean I know we're all set at backup PG and PF and all, but do we really need to get close to double digits in swingmen on the roster?

Could you see OKC offering him the full MLE(even for 3 years)?

If Cleveland threw a lot of money at him, that would probably make it easier to land Speights or Casspi(not as good, but should be cheaper).

OKC is tapped out. They weren't going after Martell.

We probably need Rice more than ever now. If Web goes down we're going to need a scorer off the bench or a guy who can start for us.

I'm not mad about the deal given the partially gauranteed fourth year. Ves is almost certainly gone now though and Ariza is probably going to get moved for front court help.

Big question is what are we going to do with Okafor...

Or if it's mostly non-guaranteed, it wouldn't be much more than the 3/15 you said you would have offered.

I think it's best if this doesn't happen this offseason but rather towards the trade deadline when owners who are in luxury tax danger start realizing that they aren't going to get a championship team for their money.

I think we slightly overpaid too but how is our cap space going to be bad after this season if both Okafor and Ariza are coming off?

Wow.

So I guess it goes as out 1-2-3:

Wall/Maynor
Beal/Webster/Rice
Porter/Webster/Ariza/Rice

Ariza needs to go.

WTF happened to 3 years, 10 mil? How did that become 4/22?

cottamit. I hate this sorry ass front office. this is one of those contracts that come to bite you in the ass in the longrun.

They added a $12 million 4th year poison pill so the Wizards wouldn't match. That EG's sly as a fox.

How many players in this group besides Wall can get their own shot?

While i am not saying it is a great deal, i think EG made this signing knowing it was a 3/15-16M deal..then he goes back to Martell and says to himself.."Lets add an option year that is partially guaranteed that will allow us to..
If we are not contending:
1) immediately cut bait if we need to trim salary to rebuild

If we are contending:
2) Keep him if he shows to be 6 MOTY quality to provide bench depth
And my personal favorite, 3) Some team in 4 years will need to trade a starting caliber player (NeNe). Offering a team needing to rebuild a couple of peices (Some young players + 1st round draft pick) along with an immediate 4.5M in savings (assuming final year is 1M guaranteed) is a damn good start to a package.

So in reality, If you think 3/15-16 is a good/fair deal, then having a 4th year team option (With 1-2M premium for the inclusion) should be fair as well. The only way its a bad deal is if Martell completely flops or EG(or whoever is in charge in 4 years) mismanages the unguaranteed year...correct?

The dude was horrible and doesn't belong in the NBA. That said, as bad as he is, I wouldn't be surprised if we found a way to pay him 2 mil/year.

Maynor and maybe Rice I think. I think the Wiz FO is betting on Porter and Beal developing some considerable ball handling ability...whether or not that is a wise bet...I'm not sure... BUT I think it is reasonable to expect some level of improvement. I don't want a whole bunch of ISO nutjobs on the roster. Look at the Heat and Spurs. LBJ/Wade are the only guys there that are really a threat with the ball in ISo situations. Parker/Manu and I guess Neal are the only ones on the Spurs. You don't see more than 2 ISO star caliber players per Contender IMO. At least in the wing positions.
