Per Marc Stein.

Wow. I guess every team with that kind of cap space is talking to Dwight, Smith, and Bynum first.

Exactly. I wonder if that'll make Jefferson sign with Charlotte immediately knowing that he's leftovers to the other teams. I think it should. If he could help lead the lowly Bobcats to the playoffs in his 1st season there, it would look great on his résumé, not saying that he will, but "IF"

Looks like the Spurs are signing Splitter to 5 year/45 mil deal - not sure of the implications, but has to put a dent in their ability to look at Big Al. (BTW - 9 mil a year for Splitter? Jeesh).

They wanted to avoid having to match an offer from another team (Blazers). Good for him.

The Spurs must have felt like the Bobcats were going to close the deal on Al Jefferson, and made the move to quickly wrap up Tiago Splitter whatever the cost barring the max

Is Al Jefferson the best free agent to ever visit Charlotte? ( for the bobcats) Is he the only one to visit? I can't remember ever hearing of a free agent visit before. There must have been, I just don't recall.

im sure jefferson will go wherever the money is. He's 28 and this is his last chance for a big contract. 4 big years and he will be 32-33 with 3-4 years left to bargain ring chase if he cares that much about it.

I should've known the tank was over when Cho drafted Zeller over Noel. I can't envision Jefferson not signing with Charlotte

With Spurs signing Splitter to 4 years 36 million its almost a given that Jefferson will be a Bobcat. I like it.

I'm not thrilled with the idea of signing Big Al but I'll support him none the less. Having an actual post presence will do wonders for our team.

Does this mean we will amnesty Tyrus?

Im assuming so. I'm assuming Jefferson gets 12+ a year, and Henderson will get a significant raise. I'd also like to think Cho will sign a shooter cheap, but who knows.

I thought we'd be stuck with Tyrus for another year. Getting rid of his contract would make me feel better about the signing.

Assuming Jefferson doesn't get more than 12.5 our team roster doesn't have any bad contracts except Gordon's expiring.

The new CBA makes it so the FO moves will have a much larger impact on teams winning. Too much deadweight and you have no shot at a championship.

I don't think Cho need to sign a shooter if Clifford could convince BG not to dribble, and Jeff Taylor finds confidence in his shooting touch. Both Gordon & Taylor could be decent spot shooters at the wing while Kemba, MKG, Hendo, & Sessions slash to the rack. It's not necessarily imperative if you ask me

It's far too early to say whether or not Jefferson is going to sign here. Surely he isn't just going to sign with the first team that offers him a contract, before Dwight and company have signed. Quite a few teams are attempting to sign Dwight. Only one team can sign him, so the other teams are bound to offer someone like Jefferson big bucks as a plan B.

Isn't far too early at all. Most of the teams who want Howard have Bynum as plan B, and some after Bynum even have Greg Oden as a low risk high reward plan C.

Its not for sure Jefferson will come here, but there is a decent chance.

3/36 i could live with. 4/48....meh. 5 years is too much.

I could live with this. Not exactly pumped about it, depends on the contract. The mistake that was Tyrus gives me the heeby jeebies.

So far, Charlotte's the only team showing significant interest.

He's supposed to be in Charlotte tonight and then he'll meet with the team tomorrow. Wild guess is dinner tonight with coach and general manager, then a tour of the facilities tomorrow and possibly a contract offer.

Splitter done got that 4 year deal from the Spurs.. I think it's safe to say Jefferson will be a Bobcat next season.

what would be a reasonable contract for jefferson?

i assume he will want a 4 year deal (3 years would be ideal, imo).

if i am the cats, i would offer 4/40. surely jefferson and his agent will ask for 4/60. would you meet in the middle?

I'd give him 3/35.

If he wasn't down, that would be ok.

But I wouldn't budge too much more than that.

I think a smart move for Jefferson would be to sign a single season deal with the Spurs, play the role that Pop's wants him to and win.

He needs to pull a ZBo and show he can help a team win, not just put up stats.
