What do you guys think about Reggie Evans? How vital is he?

Post#1 » by EGarrett » Sun Jun 30, 2013 11:07 am

I only recently realized that Evans averaged 11 rebounds per game in 25 minutes. I don't hear his name very often but that's pretty huge given that it covers for Brook's weak point.

Do you think he'll be a key piece this year? Are you glad he stayed or would you rather the Nets have traded him and kept another role player in his place?

Evans is a great role player for 15 MPG and a huge liability at 30 MPG (which was unfortunately the case for the 2nd half last year).

He's a tough, gutsy hustle player who can clean the glass with anyone, but unfortunately has ZERO offensive ability. Cannot finish down low, cannot shoot, and is really just a huge liability in any big offensive situation.

His role this upcoming season should be similar to what his role was at the beginning of last season. He and Blatche had really good chemistry complimenting each other coming off the bench and were able to take advantage of most other team's 2nd units. With Lopez and KG both ideally having their minutes limited this season that combination is going to be very important to the Nets overall success in the regular season.

he's not even remotely vital, and he is not a great role player. he's a one trick pony scrub that cannot play offense or defense. can he fill a 15 mpg role on a team? sure, i guess. is he better than players like kenyon martin and chris anderson, guys that spent most of last season outside the nba? nope, not even on the same tier. even bad teams have backup bigs that are easily better than him. he's one of the worst players that figures to get any minutes at all next season, so if you like his hustle, fine, but lets not go nuts here. we could easily find a better player for the vet min.

Wouldn't mind seeing Evans getting traded at some point this year for either a backup pg, SG, or sf (whichever one we don't land in offseason). Would be fine with seeing Mirza and Plumlee in that spot instead. We don't need Evans, we need consistent shooting off the bench, and athletic wing defender, and a solid backup for Deron.

He was FANTASTIC for us in November last season when he was playing 18 minutes (and not a second more) a night.

I was glad that they traded Marshon instead of Reggie because he actually fills a need with his elite rebounding and his offense won't be such a problem because he'll be coming off the bench AND playing half of the minutes he did lat season. Glad to have him on board.

Your best 5 players and a bench guy win you games. Evans will be important, sure, but I don't expect him to have a big impact in the postseason. He'll be important in the regular season for rebounding, energy and the grind of an 82 game season.

People will down play it, say they want him gone, hate on him, or say they prefered brooks. but the bottom line was it was a great turn of events for us to take evans back in place of brooks.

Evans isnt great. but it isnt his fault he started and played 25-30 minutes a game last year. When he was a reserve earlier in the year, he provided a ton of energy and did a great job in his role.

Lopez isnt a good defensive rebounder, mirza is an average defensive rebounder, and KG the last few years is just above average on the defensive glass. We could certainly use a beast on the glass. especially if KG misses some time.

Blatche & Evans are perfect backups for KG & Lopez lol. Garnett will love playing next to Evans cause he's get down & dirty.

I think a Terry Evans Blatche bench is a very good start. Definitely need an athletic 3man because Johnson & Pierce aren't the quickest ppl in the world. Like a Sam Young would fit perfectly I think.

Then you just need a good defensive pg. Like a Tony Douglas type? Blatche & Terry get you the pts. Young & Douglas play the defense & hit the 3's. Evans just does all the dirty work. Still got Plumlee & Taylor in the wings.

If you guys can fill out that bench with guys like Young & Douglas you just are gonna be beasttttts.

We all loved him early last season.

I have no problem letting him play 12 to 15 minutes a game with Blatche off the bench.

Players like him should never approach 30 minutes though....(thanks PJ)

Yeah. I became a critic after he was put in the starting lineup, and that's not really where he belongs. He's just fine off the bench though. As Jeff said, I was glad that Brooks got traded rather than Evans because Evans actually fills a role on our bench while Brooks... he just doesn't do much of anything now. Maybe the change of scenery will do him some good (with more consistent playing time), but he just had no place on this team.

It came down to Evans or Marson Brooks. No matter what you think of Reggie...is it really even a question that you prefer Evans over Marshon?

He fills a bigger need...and he is the better player. It was an added benefit that we kept him in a trade that already saw us give up no one off last year's roster of merit.

Reggie is usually pretty good for 10-12mpg off the bench, but he's not vital to the team's overall success, especially the team that we're in the process of assembling.

I prefer him over MarShon (for our team) but if Reggie was traded, we won't lose much. His specialty of rebounding only has a positive effect for a few minutes and once the opposition makes adjustments, he usually gets cooked.

As long as we continue to rebound as a team, we'd be fine with or without him.

Word is they're trying to trade Reggie for a backup point guard. There aren't many that would match with his salary for trades, even combined with Tyshawn, so I'm imagining most candidates would be guys on rookie scale who aren't highly sought after and/or their team has very little need for.

Maybe Corey Joseph?

$3,205,634 is the maximum we could take back with that package, that's actually more salary then you would think. I'd imagine for the right guy who was maybe a legit combo guard we'd add Toko in there, although I really hope not, I think he's going to be a legit player in this league and would hate to see him as nothing but a salary throw in to get some mediocre-ish buy like Ridnour.

Maybe Jerryd Bayless?

Kendall Marshall?

BTW, just realized Beno Udrih is a free agent. Just sayin'...

is he really available? after the season he had i had just assumed he would be out of our price range..

im a huge bayless fan. super athletic, can defend, plays with a chip on his shoulder. i know he didnt pan out big time, but at the draft i was hoping for him when we took lopez. obviously it worked out great for us, but always been a fan of his

I think he opted in so it would be a trade. I cant see why they would deal him honestly.

i dont see where evans fits with gasol/zbo/davis/koufos

Terry might make some sense for them, but that would open up a backup PG spot for them for a guy who would be more a luxury then a need.

And why give up Bayless for either of those guys? Worth more. Maybe Mirza would interest them for whatever reason. But I dont see them wanting Terry.

yea i dont see it... mirza would be a 5th big for them. you dont give up your backup pg for a 5th big.

i cant see anything we could give them that would make it worthwhile for them
