Salary Dump with a Prize
Warriors Trade:
Biedrins
Jefferson
Klay Thompson
Pistons Trade:
- 2014 2nd Round Pick
Do you make the trade?
Klay joins Caldwell to form a nice set of wings to go along with your young big-men. Doesn't hurt your 2014 cap-space, and you'll have a ton more when Stuckey/Charlie Expire?
This clears enough space for GSW to sign Howard if he chooses them and LAL doesn't want to do a S&T. Bogut would go to Atlanta or another team that will take him for free.

Re: Salary Dump with a Prize
need a SF and that is an assload of money to take on and would kill any plans to bring in long term talent this season so it would need to be Barnes or forget it.

the crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe

Re: Salary Dump with a Prize
Golden State isn't going to include Thompson in a salary dump unless they have an absolute guarantee that Howard would sign with them and that's probably not very likely. Especially when the two big contracts they're dumping expire after this season.

I'd prefer Barnes to Klay, still not sure I would do the deal though.

I'd do this. It only ties salary up for this year. Last resort option though.

Re: Salary Dump with a Prize
I would do this if the Warriors included a lotto protected 1st. 1st rounders sell for $3M so that's a steep price to pay for what amounts to a 1st, even if its a 1st who looks like a sure starter.
That takes us out of FA this year, but we'd be right back in FA next year with Thompson added to the core.

Barnes would be nice. He'd nicely fit at SF for the Pistons.

Swap Klay for Barnes and I pull the trigger.

I like how everyone on this board is dying for young floor spacers but when a deal actually pops up for perhaps one of the best floor spacers in the game for literally no cost, they reject it. Not that it matters anyway since GS would never do this deal but whatever.

Sure the asset is worth the short term salary... just like the draft you take quality over positional needs.
If nothing else we would move Klay to a third team for the needed SF.
Better than over spending on this years FA market.
Would the Warriors do this if they had confirmation from Howard's camp?... Probably

I would do in a second. Barnes or Klay, wouldn't matter.

Exactly. Everyone was clamoring over #13 + Marion.

That's the key. We MUST spend 80+% of the cap ($50m) to meet the league minimum, and this would allow us to do so with only one year contracts and pick up a good asset.
At this point, the minimum is a problem. Question you have to ask is, are we going to get anyone we absolutely love in FA? If not, cap space can be a liability. We'd be forced to pay handsomely for someone we're not crazy about.

Re: Salary Dump with a Prize
Thanks all for the responses. Yes, this deal would be absolutely contingent on signing Howard. The general consensus is that it will cost Klay/Bogut to get Dwight. If D12 chooses GSW, and LAL doesnt feel like playing nice with a S&T trade, I can see Myers trying to line up a couple of deals to have in his back-pocket:
Klay/Jeff/Biedrins for Detroit 2nd Rounder
Bogut to Atlanta for John Jenkins
This brings our cap number all the way down to around 35MM which leaves plenty of room to max out Dwight + room enough under the apron to bring back Jack/Landry.
Definitely a risk, but if we get a commitment from D12 then these trades are probably preferable to the S&T prospects with the Lakers.
