If MJ is looking to get competitive (which I assume he is if they're interested in signing Jefferson) then perhaps we have a new possible location for Rudy Gay if we look to trade him?
Bobcats assets:
- Kidd-Gilchrist
- Portland's 2014 1st round pick
- Detroit's 2014 1st round pick
- Ben Gordon (expiring contract)
That's a lot of very, very intriguing pieces that could accelerate the rebuild a lot. Something around picks and Gordon for Gay would be something I'd look at. 2014 is a very, very good draft and this would leave us with potentially THREE first round picks (including ours) which could all end up in the lottery...
I would definitely look into trading with the Bobcats, especially if they end up signing Al Jefferson. Thats a win-now move for them, and i'm sure they'd consider trading for our top assets in Gay or Derozan to further their win-now motives.
I'd propose Gay and Derozan for MKG, Gordon (expiring), Detroit's 2014 1st round pick, and even push for Portland's 2014 1st round pick. If we need to throw in Lowry to make it work, i'd do it. We'd be set up to finish last while collecting a great asset in MKG, and two 2014 draft picks.
Precisely what I was thinking.
They're not going to find a cheaper starting quality PG than Lowry and if they really are chasing Jefferson and actually succeed in signing him, they'll need to make additional moves to solidify the team. Bobcats are at a point of weakness right now and Jordan wants to starting winning. Once Jefferson is signed:
To Charlotte: Rudy Gay
To Toronto: Ben Gordon, DET 2014 1st round pick (Top 8 protected), Kidd-Gilchrist.
I'm counting on Jordan's desperation to make that happen but I'd drop MKG from the deal if it was a deal breaker.
Or if we want to make this a blockbuster and speed the process up:
To Charlotte: Rudy Gay, Kyle Lowry, Amir Johnson
To Toronto: Ben Gordon, DET 2014 1st round pick (Top 8 protected), POR 2014 1st round pick (Top 12 protected), Kidd-Gilchrist/Kemba Walker, Tyrus Thomas
