Trade Proposal From a Jazz Fan

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Wed Jul 3, 2013 5:28 am

We take on the contracts of Granger/Green & 1st rounder 2014 & 2016

You only do this if you have prearranged this trade with the Jazz & You have prearranged the signing of

OJ Mayo 4/$32
&
Carl Landry 4/$25

Sure you give away a bad pick and a favorite in Granger:

But we take on $18M and we have no idea if Granger will make it back. The picks are compensation for you building a championship team.

2 picks for 2 great players for your core!

In no way would i do that deal. I am intrigued by Landry and Mayo but 2 first rounders along with Granger and Green just to dump salary and sign two guys to 4 year deals that would make it much harder (probably impossible) to resign Stephenson. After maxing George the team is probably over the cap. Meaning another year or two of trying to dump salary. I would be interested in using a future pick in a salary dump with Green and possibly Mahinmi depending on the development of Plumlee.

Its possible Laundry and OJ could be had for $12M total ($5-Laundry & $7-OJ).

This way you have a championship in the bag in my book.

I like Stephenson but OJ/Laundry give you a championship. Stephenson will help you win the championship, then you let him go in a sign and trade that brings you something back. Or you trade OJ or Laundry later.

Good players on good contracts can always be moved.

You may decide to move George Hill and go with CJ and another good back up PG to pay for keeping all of your core.

2013 is your championship year
2014 is your year to flip guys to stay out of the Tax: You can flip OJ or Ian or Laundry or Hill. With a core of Hibbert/Paul George and West you have to then decide who do you want your 4th & 5th players to be:

Is it OJ/Laundry, is it Hill/Laundry, is it Stephenson/Laundry...

But for this one year before Paul George locks in his big deal you can garner some seriously good assets in OJ and Laudry by giving Utah Grangers last year (potentially injured) and Green.

Next year would you rather have the option of resigning Stephenson as your only option because Granger is gone no doubt...

Or would you rather have 4 awesome sub star players this year that help you win the championship but who next year have a huge market for trades: Hill, OJ, Carl Laundry, and Stephensen will be gobbled up for younger assets and picks. You get to sit back and decide which 2 you want to keep because of money, and then which assets you want back for the the value you give up. Again good players on cheap contracts are great assets to have... but you can't get them this year because unless you unload $18M to get these guys under the cap you can't sign them.

One more thing:

I would start the same lineup you did against Miami.

Bring OJ/Laundry off the bench with CJ and Ian and you are golden. That team is tough to beat. Next year is the year to win now...

Or you could keep Granger... hope he comes back to form and hope he doesn't hurt George's development because he has to start in all likelihood, or you can get guys that are okay coming off the bench to give you the best bench in the league.

Frankly I would start OJ so that Stephensen's value stays depressed by being a 6th or 7th man.

OJ will get more than 8 per and Landry will get more than 6.25 per, but that is beside the point.

Essentially you're saying the cost to move GGreen is Granger and 2 1sts. That's the way I look at it anyway. It's not like we lost in the ECF's with Danny in the lineup, so wouldn't adding him to our lineup actually be an improvement in itself.

Utah can do much better if they want Granger. You should know how tough it is for both our teams to attract f/a's. Danny is still 30, he's got 5 more productive years, and his next contract should be cap-friendly. It'd be nice if Hayward was included.

if you think Granger is your answer. make him an offer next year when he is a free agent. you might even sign and trade for him but then you'd be sending us the picks. we're not trading first round picks for guys who would be overpaid backups for us.

I'd rather have Granger than Mayo. We'd still sign Landry for the same MLE as you proposed. It probably wouldn't take 2 1sts to dump Greens deal for an expiring

At that point, I have a better team, better financial future going forward, and more picks going forward.

This is an easy pass. We're not paying extortion yet.

I think we hang on to Granger. He could be a huge offensive piece for us if he is healthy. His contract coming off the book at the end of the year is also big for us.

Green would be a great trade chip for a team looking to make the evening news for their highlight reel while looking to secure a few additional Ping-Pong balls in the lotto. If given the minutes he may develop, but only getting one rotation a game...blah

I've always been a big fan of having Mayo and Landry on the Pacers because Landry could eventually replace West. Buy this is just too much to give up for bench players.
