I would say no. I'm looking for youth and defensive perimeter defense.

Here is another question, not trying to hijack the thread. If the Lakers do resign Dwight, would you want the Lakers to trade Gasol for Rondo?

Is Rondo worth taking the cap hit for 14?

My question wasn't designed for others to question, it was designed for an answer, yes or no.

Yes it could be possible, with the celtics in rebuild mode and getting contracts off the books for next season FA market and a shot at wiggins

Of course the Lakers would do that if they could. But they can't, so they won't. (re Rondo)

As for Butler have there been any signs he'd be bought out?

Butler gives you better 3PT shooting but less activity than Barnes. Either one would be fine for a backup vet min role. Still need to look at these athletes though for the MMLE.

Butler is a superior shooter, so I'd take him out of the two.

For the minimum? Of course, it'd be idiotic to pass on a player of his talent and production for the min, especially since he already has great chemistry with Kobe

Starting with a lineup of

Collison
Kobe
Butler
JHill
Pau

and then at the 6 min mark sub everyone out and shift Kobe to the 3

Nash
Meeks
Kobe
Clark
Sacre/Insert FA big

The options at C are pretty limited, but all Sacre has to do is hustle and rebound and he'd fit in fine, Kobe would be in the post a lot anyway. The first lineup gives you speed with Collison, shooting with Butler, great rebounding, and Pau in the post where he belongs. Essentially MUCH more dangerous offensively since you have actual penetration, defenders not being able to sag completely off the 3 like with Artest, and Pau not being useless at the 4. The second lineup brings a huge energy punch and should be focused on pushing the ball for opportunities with Nash and bigs that can run the floor and then if nothing presents itself, settle down and let Kobe go to work in the post. Since we're stuck with Nash and Meeks we're going to be weak defensively no matter what and just need to minimize their time with the ball..long possession Kobe post plays accomplish that

Of course this will never happen since 1. Butler won't get bought out 2. We won't get a single FA that isn't a terrible signing and that actually fits and would help the team - Collison fits that and 3. Dantoni will never bring Nash off the bench. It's worth dreaming about though. Throw in some other cheap pieces, an athletic 3 and maybe bring someone like Odom back? Watching a team like that would be so much more fun and enjoyable for me then another nightmare season of Pau/Dwight with Dantoni

If he gets bought out, I wouldn't mind him as a backup SF. I would even consider starting him over MWP.

With that being said, we really shouldn't be talking about any player other than Howard at the moment. His upcoming decision will affect the next 5-10 years for the Lakers.

Regardless of if we retain Dwight or not, I would LOVE to have Caron on the Lakers. Him and Kobe are good friends too so if we lose Dwight and end up tanking, we might as well give Kobe some homies to kick it with all year.

Butler>>>Barnes

I doubt we get him though.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;
