$4.3M, seems a bit high. He's 25. Does he have a higher ceiling or is this pretty much it? Either way we need shooters and he wasn't bad last year. Also has some ball-handling skills and our offense needs more movement. Do we re-sign at the current price or let him go?

Re: Yes!
If we sign him to a one year deal thats fine with me, but I do not expect him to get any better than he is.
And sorry to nit pick but he certainly does not have ball handling skills. He has some of the worst handles of any wing player in the league, its the main reason why he struggles on offense.

$4.3M is way too high. Hell, Mayo is twice the player that he is, and he was only paid $4M last season.
I'd throw a $2.5M to $3M deal at him for a year. If he plays well next year, maybe sign him long-term, if he sucks, then we just let him walk once the season is over, not effecting our cap space in 2014.

Actually I think with the Bledsoe acquisition it would be nice to bring him back on a cheap 1 year deal, if Butler doesn't absorb most of the SF minutes which is unfortunate because we should still be trying to develop players at every position.

+ Len at $ 2.9 MM and Goodwin at $ 0,9 MM, that's $58 million'ish, for a cap of $ 58,5.
We'll only sign people through trades now.

Since we are right at the cap, don't we have a mid level or something? Isn't there some leeway with resigning our players? Or did we lose that when we didn't take the option on Wes?
Not that I want to go over the cap though. Lee and Tucker seem to be very similar, and unless either guy learned how to shoot over the offseason, we do need some shooters. I like Wes, and think he is young enough to take a small two year deal.
Also, did we miss our opportunity to waive Brown and only cost us $1.75 million instead of $3.5 million?

Not an expert, but I believe we have a $2.5 MM exception. So maybe you could fill in Wes for $ 3MM/year.
Would have to find someone who understands details on the exception rules to validate that.

We don't have a MLE but we can resign our own FA and go over the cap.

Since we have you on the hook Gaspar, do you know what the deal is with Brown and Beasley's deals? Some here have suggested that Beasley isn't guaranteed next year. And can we still waive Brown and only pay half, or did we pass a deadline on him?

I can answer that. Brown had a non guaranteed last year of contract of $3.5MM for this year. We could have cut him and paid half of that ($1.75MM) but we didn't cut him and are paying him the full amount of his last year. Beasley is the same for NEXT year. WE can cut him (by June 15th) and only pay him $3MM in his final year.
You can always look at contracts here and scroll over their names for the details. http://data.shamsports.com/content/page ... s/suns.jsp

Re: Yes!
There be room on the roster still, Garrett is as good as gone. And we're allowed to go over 15 players in the offseason. Also, we have Wes Johnson's bird rights, so we can go well over the cap to keep him (not that I would advise it).
To answer the OP, his defense is lack luster. It was supposed to be his strong suit coming out of college but last year he made little impact on that side of the ball. He has all the physical tools to be a good defender, and perhaps a good coach could get it out of him, but as of now it isnt there.
Another thing about Wes is that he is a older than most people realize. He will turn 26 in a week, not that it makes him an old player by any means but to be that age and still a borderline rotation player... I dont see his skills advancing much.

Re: Yes!
It's a shame we kept Brown, I wouldn't mind keeping Johnson for basically what Brown got, 2yrs $7m.
He has great athleticism and came on as a solid starter when given a chance. McD wants speed, athleticism and shooting, Johnson has all those attributes and upside. Butler could teach him a thing or two...

Re: Yes!
if i had to choose, i'd keep brown over johnson
brown can have the occasional good games where he get scorching hot (charotte and LAL games last year), with johnson i only remember that one buzzer beater shot from last year

unfortunately there would be no room for him during the regular season as the suns have 14 players under guaranteed contracts, and I doubt they would waive Oriakhi to resign Johnson. which like Tastic said is shame that Brown wasn't waived. I don't think anyone here would prefer to have Brown over Johnson, and its not like Johnson would command more than what Brown currently gets paid by any team.
