Pacers agree with PG Donald Sloan on multi-year deal
According to several sources, we have signed 6'3" PG Donald Sloan to a multi year deal. He finished last year in China and also played in Cleveland.
I would assume this would be the 3rd string emergency pg and that there's very little guaranteed money.

I would also assume that Ben's days are over even though he's supposed to be in camp this week and on the summer league roster. perhaps that means a big part of his role last year was to show his big brother how to be a bench player which of course didn't work.

Re: Pacers agree with PG Donald Sloan on multi-year deal
If Sloan has the first year fully guaranteed, which as a multi year deal I assume is required, then yeah, Ben is just training camp fodder.
So right now, we have a lineup under contract of:
Hill/Watson/Sloan
Granger/Lance/OJ
George/Solo/Green
West/Plumlee
Hibbert/Mahinmi
Assuming this is a vet minimum deal, we are likely at almost $66m on the books with 2 roster spots available, and still our full MLE available to spend.

Yeah, Ben must be on his way out with his brother, and Jonny Flynn must be very rejected hearing this news ahead of the summer camp and potentially the summer league. Other then that, i don't know much about Sloan besides he was by far the best NBADL player last season.

Pacers are not going into the luxury tax so think of $71mill as the ceiling.

Re: Pacers agree with PG Donald Sloan on multi-year deal
At this point, using the full MLE would put us RIGHT AT. The projected luxury tax level. I'd imagine we'd look more at Chris Copeland or Delfino/Belinelli than Kyle Korver, as they wouldn't require the full MLE. I'd also assume that we could only land Landry if he wasa bit more interested in a multi year deal than the full $5m MLE or more (which we can't offer). Say, 3/$13 more than 1/$5?

Legit question - are they asking Danny to take weight off and strictly be a 2-3 wing, or are they looking at some old tape of JOB having him put on weight and using him as a 3-4 and thinking that enough bigs are on the books?
I would have to assume the former due to his knee issues, but wondering what you all think.

Exactly. Currently projected at $71.5m, but won't be finalized for another couple days.

I like Donald Sloan as a 3rd point guard. He's young enough to still get better and may eventually be good enough to take over the backup point in a year or two. He isnt dynamic but is solid enough to keep around. Reminds of Anthony Johnson whom was a solid backup point for a few years in Indy.

Good question, and no idea. I just kind of threw out a lineup option with no idea of what the FO would project it as right now.

I think Vogel will use Danny as more of a 3-occasional 4 but I dont think they are requiring him to add weight. I agree it makes no sense for him to be adding weight with knee issues.

The fact that Landry has been openly expressing interest in the Pacers make me think that he may take a bit of a discount to hop on. The max raise is 7.5%, right? So 3 years structured this way may not look too bad to him:
$4.500mill
$4.838 mill
$5.200 mill
That's about 14.5 mill over 3. Doesn't seem ridiculous from either side...
It would definitely remove Copeland from the picture, and only leave enough room for a rookie min, or low scale vetmin (under $1mill)...
I like this, who has Bird's ear?

Loved Anthony Johnson when he played for us. Like i said, not knowing much about him, but knowing Ben Hansbrough pretty well by now (ND and 1yr with us), i cant imagine him being a worse option as third point guard.

4.5% raises.

still not insulting by any means, $14.1 mill over 3 years.
3 years $15 mill would be $4.782 / 4.997 / 5.222

First year has to be at least $1m lower in all likelihood. Otherwise, signing ANY other player would put us over the luxury tax line.

I was using your estimate of 66mill currently guaranteed. 70.5 should put us a touch under the tax, but with no room to add the 15th player.

Pretty close. However we couldn't make any changes throughout the season in case of injuries. We also would be severely hamstrung in any possible Green deal as we'd not be able to take on any salary in a deal.
But you're right. If the tax is at $71.5m as projected (though not certain), we would snake in just under with a locked in 14 man roster.

Re: Pacers agree with PG Donald Sloan on multi-year deal
I've heard the name Donald Sloan before but know virtually nothing of him or his game. If he is the player that has been described, he sounds like a legit 3rd PG.
