Ferry would be wise to understand the current fan base. Tanking for another season, he may lose his job, let alone any fan base thats left.

Hard to make the "tanking" call when FA isnt over yet.

Ferry loses D12 and basically our Roster looks like
Horford
Teague
Kwame Brown
Shawn Marion
Scalabrine out of retirement

THEN, MAYBE, ill concede hes losing on purpose. But we shold let FA play out. No moves are going to be made until AFTER D12 issue is over.

You are just stating the obvious

Ferry should be talking to, or making it public that he is talking to Josh, Iggy, or Monta..... this would show Howard that the Hawks are serious about getting a 3rd big name guy to go along with Dwight and Horford

but i don't know.... maybe Josh already knows Ferry's plan and Josh has already told Dwight.

I think the main piece the Hawks need is a CENTER. So until we can select the best center, the rest is irrelevant. D12 signs elsewhere, then we see what option B is.

It would be foolish to talk to Iggy or Monta without having a plan to pitch them on. Right now our proposal is "uhhh if we get D12, you can play with him..........?". Pretty crappy pitch.

The pitch to D12 was most likely "once we have you we can surround you with X, Y, Z and proceed this way....". We wouldnt pitch him our plan B obviously.

The main problem is we dont know what is going to happen until D12 decides. Sorry if its boring, but the rest of it is all just BS until he makes his decision.

I also suspect , you are going to see other FA hold off on accepting deals until the D12 decision is over. IF he stays in the west, the West just got SUPER competitive. If he comes east, (hawks) then you may see JS and Iggy make other decisions.

I just disagree with your "no d12, we are intentionally losing" argument. If that was the case, Horford would be gone. So would Teague

Indeed.

Horford could have probably gotten us the #1 pick in this year's draft. That would have been the first step in tanking...

Especially when it became obvious that CP3 was staying in LA and our sales pitch to D12 was severely hindered.

Lets also say that D12 signs with Houston.

danny implements Plan B, Plan C, Plan D and all of the sudden its August and we cant land 1 BIG NAME FA. Lets say we end up with Asik, Horford, and a bunch of 1 year contracts because we couldnt get anyone else to come here.

THEN, MAYBE, I would see us tanking not by design, but by virtue of being unable to land a big name FA.

Honestly that is my biggest fear. My biggest fear isnt losing D12, my biggest fear is losing D12 and not being able to sign our backup "plans" because at that point, Ferry may look at this as being a failure altogether.

If you think about it, Cleveland was lucky enough to land LBJ, then lucky enough to land Kyrie Irving..........

Until we get that 1 guy we can REALLY call a star or superstar, dont know if we will ever be able to land that big name FA. WHich is why I think we should have signed a big name coach. I like Coach Bud, but not sure hes big name enough to attract players to come here.

You might think it is crappy, but it is what Houston just did with Josh.

In the meeting with Dwight, i would have said, we have extra money for another contract, who do you want, Josh, Iggy, Monta, etc?

then you can always have that meeting, tell the other free agent and his agent the situation (like what Houston did) and say we could give you an extra million and have the oppertunity to play with Horford and Dwight if Dwight agrees.

Houstons pitch was

We have a Superstar Talent Guard= HArden
We have a young core ready to blossom= Parsons, Beverly, Brooks
We have trade bait= Lin , Asik
We have cap space to sign your buddy Josh Smith
We have a HOF Coach who has won chips, and who mentored one of the best PF in the game, KG
We have a history of TALENTED Centers you would join
We have no state income tax

Rockets are far and away further along than the Hawks. Their Pitch to Smoov was probably a long the lines of the same thing, just leave out the centers and sign JS part obviously. Their pitch is WE HAVE HARDEN and Mchale and TRADE BAIT.

The hawks have really NOTHING to offer Howard except $$. Unproven coach, no all stars, no looming FA signings, Josh Smith was NOT happy here, you really think they said "Hey D12, you can play with HORFORD!"

We arent pitching anyone because we dont know what we need until we find out if D12 is coming here or not. I also suspect no one is going to take a team seriously if you say "we want you if we can get X to sign" because the transactions change so rapidly.

Youre comparing a pitch to Iggy and Monta to the pitch Houston made to Josh Smith. Houston has assets, Atlanta has none, at the moment. We have nothing to pitch anyone on except hey, come take our money.

And let me get this straight, you want to pitch 2 guards on playing for a team who already has their starting PG, their SG (louwill) and JUST TOOK another PG in the draft?

Hawks have plenty of guards, we need BIG MEN, then we can talk guards

Now that D12 is off the market, I think we're seeing Plan B rolling already. Millsap and Carroll already onboard. There's reasonable belief that he will move Smoove to HOU for Asik. We know Asik wants out and D12 wants to play with his buddy. I see that deal just being a matter of working out the details. So that leaves us with:

PG - Teague (Schoeder)
SG - Lou, Jenkins
SF - Korver, Carroll, Stevenson?
PF - Horford, Millsap
C - Asik (Muscala & Bebe)

Work in progress.
