What about Billups?

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Thu Jul 4, 2013 8:05 am

We apparently are linked to Billups and Billups said last season he would love to retire a piston. that would honestly help or at least plug our PG need, and give knight a mentor. i hope we sign him

2 years vet's minimum, don't resign Bynum, Gores brings him in as the new GM after 2 years.

This can definitely be in the cards. Chris Broussard reported last night that '' Detroit has done interest '' to Billups. Not sure what he meant though.

Would love to see Billups back in a Pistons uniform. He deserves to have incentives!!! I would bring Billups back as a combo guard and let him alternate between PG & SG. We could easily find 20min/game for him off the bench. After his 2 years I would allow him to be assistant GM to Dumars. Dumars deserves a chance to right the ship. This team just needs leadership...

Bynum/Billups (Hopefully we'll be able to get another PG)
Pope/BK (or vis/versa)
Iggy or Granger/Singler or Middleton
Moose/JJ
Dre/Moose/B.Wallace

This team is not perfect but the leadership will return!!! Billups can definitely handle the point. Maybe we can get Calderon or Jack to come here too!!!

More like that :
Knight/Billups/Siva
Pope/Middleton/English
Iguodala or Granger/Singler/Jerebko
Monroe/Mitchell/Jerebko
Drummond/Monroe/Kravtsov

Billups would be a nice mentor to Knight. I'd like it much more than Calderon.

Chauncey would be awesome. He'd be a great lockeroom presence, especially since this team lacks leadership. Plus he'd be a great mentor for BK. I'd love to see him retire as a Piston and let him progress into the front office once he decides to retire. But I'm biased, since he's my favorite player ever.

FWIW, I remember hearing him saying on First Take that he wants to play for a contender; "I wanna win man. I wanna win." The reason he hasn't agreed to go back to the Clippers is because he isn't sure if they're good enough to win a championship, why would he want to come and play for Detroit? (This is all in the first minute of the video)

But he did say that his "desire has always been to be in the front office and put the team together, hire the coach and be behind the scenes" (5:30 in the video). We should make him an offer to come and play for a year or 2 than setup a succession plan for him to replace Joe.

Would LOVE to bring Chauncey back. He shouldn't have been traded in the first place, but that's in the past. Give him a chance to retire a piston.

yeah, Billups would be good for the team and it would be nice for him to retire a Piston.

I'd love that move! But don't think I forgot all the moaning of get rid of all the 04 Pistons and let this team find its identity....How'd that work out.

If he were willing to come back in a mentors role, I'd love it.

But I bet he goes to Miami to try and grab one last ring.

I deliberately put Bynum as our starter. There is a STRONG reason for that. Bynum and Dre have remarkable chemistry together and I think we need to exploit that. Also, Cheeks was a little PG too and I think he's going to appreciate his grit and favor him. I could be wrong but Bynum has a MUCH better chance of being a starter over BK. BK needs to earn his minutes and ability to start.

Bynum should not be on this roster next year, forget starting. Yes he has great chemistry with Dre...but he's so ball dominant and his hero ball freezes other guys out. I want Knight & KCP to have a chance to actually do things with the ball, and develop chemistry with Dre & Moose. If Knight doesn't prove himself by the trade deadline, deal him or use him as a 6th man. I think I would rather have Jose starting at PG than Will.

Just because you have an explanation for it doesn't make it not laughable. Anytime somebody brings up bringing Bynum back all they can say is he threw great lobs to Dre last year. It's never about how he ran the TEAM and made everybody better. With Billups back I would feel 1000x better about Brandon Knight being able to get it together.

Exactly, Cheeks and Billups both developing Knight has a chance to make him shine. BK7 has the potential, he's shown it multiple times in his barely 2 years as a Piston. It's time for him to breakout.

I'm a lil surprised by this. Really didn't think Chauncey would be a realistic target, but IF he did return I actually think he'd start in a limited role at SG alongside Knight.

We have a lot of youth and could use a stabilizing presence in the starting lineup. IF we still think Knight is our PG, then I think you let him start there with the ball in his hands, but Chauncey playing 22-28 mpg is able to take some ball-handling duties off him and provide on-the-court leadership and mentoring. This also lets us bring KCP along a little more slowly and gives Siva a few mpg at PG as the third stringer.

Billups and Cheeks could do wonders for Knight.

If Billups is on board I think you have to go for it.

I don't see why he would be though. He's been pretty clear that he wants to vie for a title if he's playing at this stage in his career.

Return to Detroit Pistons
