well because the heat have limited options with no cap flexibility unless u trade one of the big 3, so to entertain ourselves, we pretend oden will make an impact this year if he signs here. Who knows, he might. Alot of teams are interested in him, whether they actually want him or to keep him off the heat, anyones guess.

Miami possibly using Oden as a distraction for getting Dalembert? If teams are lining up to use cap space on him to not let us get him, whilst we're secretely dealing with Dalembert, we could potentially snag him before teams realise what's going on. I don't think that's happening as much as I want it to though lol.

I'm sure they can't offer as much playing time as us if he's looking for starters minutes. If he's only looking for backup minutes for this year than I doubt it has any effect.

I really doubt Oden is seeing offers above what we can afford to offer him.
I also really doubt that we're even considering Dalembert.

Besides Oden--I think we'll be waiting to see who shakes out later in the summer. We may not see our new signing until the middle of the year like we did with Birdman to be honest.

I also think we'll try out different bigs in summer league and training camp. Maybe we'll find a diamond in the rough there?

we make finding a big who can defend, rebound, and dunk the basketball look soooo hard. But I feel like every team in the NBA has at least one of these stiffs on their roster. Most have two or three.

I mean how hard can it be to find another Deandre Jordan type guy?

Oh yeah so they've been showing old Oden clips on ESPN the past week--holy crap did he used to be athletic. I had forgotten. But he was a guy who would dunk while he was still going up. Like Deandre Jordan but with scary strength.

I wonder how much of that he's lost?

You feel like watching these old clips, it's no wonder he had knee trouble. When he jumped it looked like he was jumping out of his bones. Like his muscles were too strong for his structure.

I do think if he comes here that our fat camp program could give him his career back. I think some of his knee problems are a result of carrying too much weight, and too much muscle in the wrong places.

It's sad, because if Oden had been healthy, he would probably be the best center in the game right now. His potential was unreal to me watching him at Ohio State. Even when he was with Portland--his rebounds and blocks per minute numbers were insane. He fouled a lot though. But when he was on the floor, he was scary.

im not gonna lie. every time i watch oden highlights i cringe. not because of his skill or anything like that but his legs just dont match his upper body. he has really thin legs and he runs awkwardly. also it doesnt help that he pulls himself up after every dunk causing extra force on his knees when he lands. he really needs to lose weight and put on some muscle to surround his knees cause otherwise hes just going to get hurt again

Oden has probably lost all athleticism he once had. 3 microfracture surgeries and numerous other injuries are no joke. He could still probably be effective but that's if he doesn't get injured again. I really don't see any way in which Oden will ever contribute meaningfully to an NBA team again.

Truth is NOBODY knows what Greg Oden will bring to the table. Not even Greg Oden himself.

Being out of the game for four years will also hurt. It will take awhile for him to adjust to the speed of the game again, even if he does stay healthy. The notion that any team is offering him anything above the vet minimum, or multi-year deals above what we would offer, seems hilariously absurd. I feel like teams are only doing it because they see us interested so feel like that must mean he's fixed and okay. But I mean, it's probably more like Riley is trying to help a guy like he did with Eddy Curry. And if it works out, maybe get another Ike Austin type of signing.

If we got Oden, it's very likely we'd still need to add another big, or hope Varnado keeps developing.

Oden is a mystery but he comes with way to much upside for teams not to try. You sign Oden for minimum and he breaks down, you cut him but...... If he gives you anything close to what his potential is, you just signed a defensive monster and one of the very few real big men left on the market and in the league. Oden was a freak coming out of college, he may not give you 20-10 but 20 mins of 9-7 is well worth the risk.

Are we supposed to save that pittance for someone better, because I don't see it. Risk reward is good in this case. I certainly like it more than giving it to Dalambert who was making public overtures to us while we swept his team in the first round. That really turned me off the guy. Especially since he also played like crap all year.

Because NBA GMs are known for their risk management abilities.

Every time I see Heat fans clamoring for Dalembert I RAGE!!!

He got DNPed playing for the Bucks. He cares less than Dampier. The only reason he is still playing is because he makes a ton of money. He probably hates basketball by now and if it were his choice he wouldn't touch a basketball for the rest of his life.

It's been 3 days since teams have officially been allowed to speak with free agents.

I agree with weouthere, when I seen Dalembert in Milwaukee I was very disappointed in the shape he was in. He needs to be in shape to play in our offense. I knew Birdman was going to be in shape and that's the lone reason why he fitted with the team. Dalembert has the talent to play our style, but he has to be in shape to allow that talent to work.
