Crazy Hypothetical Trade: Would You Do This?
With all the moves the Pelicans have made / are making, Andre Drummond suddenly seems like the PERFECT fit for them at center. Last year, everyone on this board would have given a limb to get Anthony Davis to pair with Greg Monroe. Assuming no other pieces need to be added, would you do a straight swap?
PELICANS:
PG: Holiday
SG: Gordon
SF: Evans
PF: Anderson
C: Drummond
Pretty crazy-athletic teams of shooters and scorers anchored by Drummond in the middle.
PISTONS
PG: Knight
SG: Pope
SF: TBD (Free Agent)
PF: Davis
C: Monroe
Still probably the best young front court tandem in the NBA, and retain all our cap space to go shopping for wings.
I doubt either team would actually do this, but Drummond sure fits the new-look Pelicans better than Davis does, and a year ago we all would've wet ourselves to swap the #9 pick for Davis (who had just spent his summer playing for the Olympic Team). Just something fun to think about, and interesting to realize just how quickly our opinions of players can change.
Happy Fourth, one and all!

Re: Crazy Hypothetical Trade: Would You Do This?
Good question.
Davis is likely going to have the better all around game than Drummond. Davis, imo, projects to eventually have a nice all around game. Hitting mid-range jumpers at a high clip, rebounding, defense, the whole package.
In Drummond's case, I don't see him ever being a mid-range threat. But, what he is good at, I expect him to be near league-leader in. Rebounds and blocked shots, and garbage buckets around the rim, setting great screens, and generally doing things athletically that a guy his size shouldn't be able to do.
Davis does concern me with all the injuries he incurred in his rookie season. Is he injury prone, or just unlucky?
It's a toss up, to be honest. If you factor in the idea that Monroe is going to be the "other" big man in the duo, Drummond makes more sense to me. He should be a high impact defender.

I'd be hesitant, but I probably do it.
The only real benefit (besides that Davis projects to be the better all-around player) is that it saves us from moving Monroe to PF. As much as we all take it for granted, there are still some question marks about how that transition is going to work.

Drummond for Davis? Absolutely not. I think Dre will be the better player and I love the size that he provides now that Monroe is player his true position of PF.

Ill pass. Monroe isn't a good defender at the 5. I'd rather keep drummond.

I'll stick with Dre.

This is interesting.....I'll probably wait and see if Drummond learns anything from Hakeem this offseason. If he didn't, and there is someone like a Anthony Davis or a combination of talented players (eg. Klay Thompson and Barnes for Drummond), then I might pull the trigger to improve this team. But it's hard to decide because he could be a franchise changing center.

Re: Crazy Hypothetical Trade: Would You Do This?
no. they wouldve been 1 and 2 if you took out drummonds motor issues. now that we know thats not a problem.. ill take a 290 pound center over a 230? pound center/pf. to be honest, i wasnt that impressed by davis last season.. and i sure as hell was impressed with drummond. there is no reason to break up monroe and drummond now until they prove to us that it wont work. ill pass.

Re: Crazy Hypothetical Trade: Would You Do This?
Interesting thread. I'd think about it but probably pass. These trades don't happen unless the owners are pushing it since one of the GMs would certainly get fired

I'd rather trade Monroe home to NO for Davis...... Don't shoot me Monroe lovers I love him to but A.Davis and Drummond would be a very fun tandem to watch plus Davis can open up the paint a little bit further than Monroe can for Drummond.

I have no idea why you'd think Monroe for Davis would be controversial.
Of COURSE we'd do that. The Hornets wouldn't.

Hey I can live with Moose on our team all day, how ever in my eyes and many others to move forward is our best trade piece. So of course we get horrible trade ideas that the beauty of Real GM forums

I'm shocked at the No's here. Anthony Davis straight up for Drummond? Absolutely yes. In a heartbeat. Done!
