DOMINO EFFECT if Dwight goes to Golden State.

Post#1 » by Dre Drummond » Fri Jul 5, 2013 4:27 pm

If Dwight goes to Golden State, it appears that they're sending out three big contracts Utah, Cleveland, and Atlanta.

First side effect of this trade is it eats at those 3 teams capspace, but none of them really appeared to be major contenders for FAs. The good thing is though that it does then put a higher premium on capspace down the road (why amnestying CV could be so huge). Luxury tax teams that are under preforming are key candidates as well as any other teams trying to create space to sign an player or pick a player up... Or to be a 3rd team in a trade that needs a team with capspace to make the numbers work.

Second major side effect is free agents will finally start moving... Expect Josh Smith to sign a large deal with Houston. Expect Dallas to potentially sign a few big name FA's even if just on one year deals (Ellis or Jennings or Iggy). Should be a ton of movement in FA land no later than monday.

I think Andrew Bynum ends up in Dallas.

Do you have any kind of source to back up your rant?

Why is it assumed that Houston gets Smith, just because they didn't get Dwight?

I wouldn't be surprised to see them go after Bynum as a backup plan before turning to Smith.

There was a wiretap that stated Houston's backup plan was Josh Smith... No way they don't spend on someone after missing out on Dwight.

I can't see Dallas give 4 year deals to 2nd tier FA's when next summer dirk finally comes off the books and they could have enough capspace for multiple max players.

I could easily see them going after Smith as their top priority:

Lin
Harden
Parsons
JSMoove
Asik

Why would anyone want to sign with Dallas next summer? Dirk will be 36 then and the rest of the the roster will be just about barren.

And that is arguably their missing hole right after a superstar center in a way. I've watched a lot of Rockets games and they really struggled to get decent playing time for all their PFs in their roster because none of them really shined.

Lin's fine, Harden is incredible, Parson's incredible, missing hole, and then Asik is fine. That was how they managed the entire season. It makes them much better with Jsmoove and makes perfect sense. Probably enough to beat OKC this time around.

They need a legit Center to make all that perimeter talent work. Just adding a 3-4 hybrid guy like Smith doesn't seem like a solution to anything. Replace Harden for Joe Johnson and Asik for Pachulia and you got the Atlanta Hawks West. That looks like a 2nd round team at best. Bynum could make them contenders. The inside-out game with Bynum-Harden could be dominant.

Smith will go to Houston.

Iguodala might sign with Dallas, or he could return to Denver.

Bynum...who knows. Dallas if they don't get Iggy?

I don't see a scenario in which we get Smith or Iggy now that things are coming into focus. I actually think Smith winds up in Houston with or without Dwight.

Iggy is our best hope, but I'd put the chances of him coming here around only 20%....

Aminu might be our plan D - more realistic option.

We already have backup SFs though.

This. Aminu isn't even better than Singler and is an atrocious shooter. Id rather take my chances with Singler/Middleton than take on Aminu.

Golden State plans to go after Iggy as a backup plan, then Barnes/Klay is gone...and my guess is Barnes.

I think this is speculation. There is a wiretap article that states that the Warriors have offered Bogut, Biedrins and Jefferson to the Hawks, Cavaliers and Jazz. Probably true, but it's very unlikely that those are the only teams that Golden State has offered the players too.

Major concern is Cleveland. I could see them taking the worst contracts (Jefferson and/or Beidrins) for picks and not demanding Klay or Barnes, like we would. Dumb move imo, but what have they got to lose if they are focused on saving cap space for Lebron in 2014.

Golden State focused on Iggy as a back up plan makes no sense. You don't trade away your starting center, backup center plus picks to get cap space to sign Iggy. They would have no cap space and no front court.

Havent heard much on Milsap. Curious if teams are waiting for Howard and Smith to land somewhere, or if they're just not too interested. A wing (Iggy or Evans were my hope) and Milsap was my preferred offseason pickups.
