If I'm the Lakers, I'm asking for Bogut/Thompson/Picks.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 2
^ Agreed, Raf, GS has zero leverage with LA since they can't sign Howard outright, so no need for LA to take back multiple bad contracts. I would think LA would probably only take back Bogut, and at that point GS has to convince them to take Barnes+picks (the synergy with Curry/Thompson is too good to breakup IMO).
Adding Bogut/Barnes to LA's lineup and supposing everyone plays 60+ games definitely keeps them in bottom third of the Western playoff pack IMO. And they'd be in good shape for 2014. Basically the anti-Boston rebuild. LOL

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 2
Speaking of Klay Thompson, I was just looking over his advanced numbers from last season and they're pretty terrible.
I was shocked to see a PER of just over 12 and I was also under the impression that his eFG% and TS% would be higher. He doesn't really do much else, either. His rookie season was much better from an overall efficiency/impact perspective.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 2
I think I'd rather play with Harden then Curry. If they dump Lin/Asik I think a core of
Harden/Parsons/Bev. +FA
is more appealing than
Curry/FA/Barnes/Lee.
If HOU is smart they'd trade Asik to MIL for Ersan if possible so they could run:
Bev./Harden/Parson/Ersan/Howard. Save for beverly, that is an excellently spaced team. And except for Harden, all decent defenders.

Golden States leverage is that Howard can just sign with Houston and LA would get nothing. By the sounds of it Dwight is leaning towards GSW. If the Lakers ask for the moon and GSW says, "Dwight, they're unwilling to do the trade unless we include Barnes, Thompson, and picks." At that point Dwight will say eff it, I'm going to Houston.

They could also do Asik to ATL for Josh Smith (S&T) if he and Howard wanted to play together. And ATL would get a young C to move Horford to PF.

To think, the Warriors could have traded Klay Thompson for James Harden last summer if they hadn't assumed Richard Jefferson to acquire the 30th pick, which ended up being Festus Ezeli. Who would you rather have: an overrated Klay Thompson, a worthless overpaid Richard Jefferson, and Festus Ezeli or Harden?

Yep, he's a perfect example of someone who's been criminally overrated by fans, scouts and media types. A very good shooter who basically does nothing else and is a poor defender to boot. You could make a strong case that Golden State had a successful year despite his presence. If Golden State can somehow get Howard by dealing Thompson & Barnes, it would be the steal of the century.

Another perfect example of when GMs overrate their own talent.

I'm assuming HOU wants good players though. Not Josh Freaking Smith.

Not just that, but GM's overrating their ability to pick quality talent outside of the first, I dunno, say top 10 picks in the draft. Why assume Richard Jefferson's contract with like 30 mill remaining so you can get a **** late first round pick?

WHY does he like to play with people and then cry about getting attention?
I swear, Nene is much more skilled than Howard offensively. Sure, he has him on rebounds, blocks and overall defense but this guy is not worth a max contract for the lack of improvement he has shown. I can't believe I wanted him here in DC at one point. Too much drama.

I put that more on the reporter than Dwight. Sounds like he jumped the gun, which reporters tend to do when they try to be the first to break a story.

But they're close buddies...
I think Atlanta is a legit option and makes perfect sense. A little unsure how JSmith and DHoward would actually fit together, especially with Harden. Smith will need to be much more disciplined with his shot.
Houston will be a very good team next year if Howard signs there. Amazing how quickly they were able to rebuild. Says everything about Morey and EG.

Iggy to GSW. Makes Barnes and/or Klay expendable. Still: Iggy is not an ideal swingman to place alongside Dwight.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 2
I don't get why Utah is helping teams like Golden State clear salary. Golden State just cleared $20 million off the books, even though they added Iggy to a $12 million per year deal. They still saved about $8 million. It's a trade you'd make in NBA 2K13, not in real life.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 2
Apparently Utah had to take on $25 million in salary to reach the salary floor. I would hope they got picks back because this is a horrible move to make. It's almost as if Utah did Golden State a solid.

There is no salary "floor". They could just pay whatever the difference between actual salary and the floor to their roster in equal portions.

I think they needed to get to the cap floor and this help them do that this year they're at $28M right now. They also get a back-up Center for a year before Gobert comes over...a little overloaded at SF although they could by out Jefferson I suppose. The interesting part is that when Utah are ready to compete in a couple years, GS will still be a good/great team if this helps get them Howard. Dunno if that's what you implied.
Utah have a s*** ton of cap space next year even after resigning Favors and Hayward. Wow
