Poll: Back-up PF options
David West is back, and we signed C.J. Watson. The only spot that needs most is our back-up PF.

Re: Poll: Back-up PF options
you really need to add Pendi to the poll. I like Copeland if the Knicks don't match our offer but I think Pendi is ahead of everyone else on the list. JO is at the bottom. I don't want him near our locker room.

Landry by a long shot. I doubt we have enough $$ to sign him though. He even said he'd love to play for the Pacers and that we've targeted him the past two seasons.

My sentiments, exactly.
I feel he'll be a good fit.

Re: Poll: Back-up PF options
I think a wing that can shoot is more important. Granger and S. Hill might be just fine catching the backup 4 minutes. Landry and his market value is overkill. My money right now on Gani Lawal

Lawal to play the backup 4? I the idea of Brand or Landry. I could live with Copeland in pinched minutes.

I think Jermaine O' Neal fits what we are looking for capability-wise and money-wise. He's got post game the second unit can go to when the outside shots aren't falling. I agree Landry will not come cheap.

I see Granger is the primary backup to West. That leaves Pacers needing a situational big to cover minutes not absorbed by either West or Granger. A guy like Lawal would be fine for that role. I'm fine with Copeland but I think you can see the Pacers seeing the value of a true stretch 4. Copeland like Solomon Hill represents plan B for the event of Granger not making it back.
The Pacer's bench is fine if it includes a recovered Granger getting 30+ minutes per night.

I agree but dont think the front office is or would even consider him.

I think they could find a better player than lawal on a vet min deal. Probably would even do better to bring back McBob (who's a free agent).

I think McRoberts would command more money than is available for this slot.

my dark horse candidate is now Mavunga. he looked promising last summer and has had a year to get better still. see his interview on pacers.com.

Re: Poll: Back-up PF options
i think he's a candidate for the 15th roster spot if we decide to go 15 spots. I think we need someone we can count on with the 14th spot since we already have huge end of the bench questions in Green, Sloan, and Plumlee.Wizop wrote:my dark horse candidate is now Mavunga. he looked promising last summer and has had a year to get better still. see his interview on pacers.com.

Re: Poll: Back-up PF options
Sadly, the Pacers don't seem to be pursuing Elton Brand. Maybe he is out of their price range?
I do wonder if behind the scenes they are pursuing Landry. Marreese Speights or DeJuan Blair might be other possibilities, but I'm not really sold on them. Not sold on Pendergraph either.
Copeland makes no sense to me. The Pacers right now have three reliable big guys. They have got to add another legitimate big. Copeland is not a big and doesn't really do much besides shoot threes.
Of the three things the Pacers really needed to get done this summer, they've taken care of the two most important--re-sign West, and get a backup pg. A fourth big guy is the last missing piece.

Re: Poll: Back-up PF options
Copeland is a much better option if Danny is traded.
However, he may be the best option available if we're trying to stay affordable, avoid long term deals, and if we have ANY faith that Plumlee could earn minutes at any point throughout the season. He's a guy that would thrive on 10-15 minutes a night, and hopefully for less than a true bruiser of a 4 would require. We seem to have faith in Mahinmi to play 15-20 minutes a night at either the 4 or 5. If we think Plumlee may play 5-10 minutes a night at some point, Copeland would be a good fit in that we wouldn't be paying him so much that we'd have to force him minutes. Then, if for some reason Granger is moved, we'd maintain a reliable long range option off the bench.

Re: Poll: Back-up PF options
If they are trading Granger, then I hope it is for a really solid backup 4. Preferably one who can eventually replace West in the starting lineup.
But I hope that's not what is going on. I'd like to cling to my dream of the Pacers adding a healthy Granger to a team that fell just one game short of going to the finals.

and now they've got a good write-up posted for Watford.
anyone know if Ian played some 4 in Dallas? I've seen columnists writing that he is an option there. I'd feel a lot better about going with inexperienced backup 4's if playing twin towers were an option. we also have the small ball option of playing Danny at 4.
still I think we'd all prefer guys like Mavunga and Watford being the 14th and 15th man rather than the 9th. G Hill, CJ Watson, P George, D Granger, L Stephenson, R Hibbert, I Mahinmi, D West, make eight. who is next? who is the first power forward off the bench when D West sits down?

As I've been saying for a while now, Danny Granger will get backup 4 minutes.

Re: Poll: Back-up PF options
oh, I'm sure Danny will get some backup 4 minutes. I just don't think he'll get all the backup 4 minutes or even be the first 4 off the bench. I'll admit though I'm thinking of a tight playoff type rotation and the regular season would go deeper on the bench.
remember we stayed big against the Knicks last year and made no effort to match down. I know Danny changes that and he'd share the minutes guarding Melo this year no matter whether he's at the 3 or the 4. I'm just not sure what you do when West sits down and the other team still has a big lineup on the floor. one option of course is to put Danny in anyway, stretch the floor, and dare the other team to go smaller, but some teams are just going to pound the ball into the post and demand that we guard them. say what you want about Tyler, he was strong enough to guard real power forwards. Pendi could hold his position too but he hasn't been resigned. I'll be watching the games in Orlando with interest to see if Miles or Solomon shows an ability to defend the four.

Re: Poll: Back-up PF options
it is now reported that both Jack and Landry had to be renounced by GSW in order to make the Iggy deal work. don't know if we have tax room for either and roster room for Jack but matching is no longer an issue.
