For Josh Smith. That's about what's left...

He's going to Houston or possibly Dallas. We're in last place along with Sacto for him.

I think he goes to Houston with Dwight. But when I said "leverage", it doesn't just apply to the weak list of free agents out there, it also applies to the leverage Dumars can use on other GMs. I'm guessing Dumars was on the phone with GS, and he was holding out for Thompson or Barnes, but the Utah GM underbid and only asked for some weak draft picks. $20mil for late first rounder?!? Glad DUmars wasn't that stupid. And the next time (probably happening now) a deal like this comes up, the Utah GM won't be at the table anymore.

It doesn't matter how short the list of teams with money gets.

We're still at the bottom of it.

Trent (Orlando)
jazz are reported to get the 2014 and 2017 first rounders from gsw. that would mean that bought each pick for 12 million each. how is that a good deal when the t-wolves sold the 26th pick this year for like 2 million?

Kevin Pelton (5:05 PM)
Generally, late first-rounders are valued around $3 million. The Timberwolves also got a future second-round pick and got Malcolm Lee off their books. But yeah, it's hard to justify a $12 million valuation. Even if you figure that the Jazz weren't going to do anything better with the money, they had the leverage here.

Jazz made the trade to get up to the minimum salary requirement, right?

Jazz will look to trade those expirings at the trade deadline ton contenders for more picks or teams looking to free up cap room for the free agent class of 2014 and take on long term contract players in return.

1. Atlanta Hawks - $11.1 million after Jeff Teague's and Josh SMith's cap holds
2. Charlotte Bobcats
3. Cleveland Cavaliers - $19 million (or $23 million if the renounce Mo Speights)
4. Dallas - $18.0 million (if they let OJ Mayo walk away) - Signed Calderon, still have $10.75M
5. Detroit - $20 million (if they renounce Calderon, Maggette, Bynum, and Maxiell) or $28.5 if they amnestied CV
6. Houston Rockets - $16 million or $19.6 if they can move Thomas Robinson - Singed D12
7. Milwaukee Bucks - $ 20 million - Signed OJ Mayo
8. New Orleans Pelicans
9. Philly Sixers - $18 million if they renounce Bynum and all FAs
10. Portland TrailBlazers - $11.8
11. Utah Jazz

Updated. Portland traded for somebody IIRC - so they have $5M less.

Depressing.

At worst, we should have beat Utah to the punch and traded with GS.

Mayo only signed for $8M/season, so Milwaukee still has 12M if they renounce Jennings and Ellis.

Pelicans just re-signed Aminu, so they are definitely done with having cap space....

I would've loved Mayo on that contract...
