Safe To Call BG Trade a Flop?

Post#1 » by King Bugs » Sat Jul 6, 2013 12:00 am

I hated that trade the day we did it. Players do not want to come to a rebuilding Piston team and now we have useless cap space that we traded a valuable asset to get.

The good thing is that the pick is top 8 protected in 2014 (Top 1 protected in 2015... ), but with so many teams looking to tank next season and the Pistons always ending up in the 7-9 draft range. Losing that pick in a good 2014 draft is a very realistic possibility.

It's still July maybe some FA "magic" can happen... maybe not.

Not really. We could still trade for Deng or Granger or Rondo. We have cap space to take on players like Gordon if we need to. We still have options just not much in FA.

Yes. Although most people cheered JOe D on when he made the trade, it will come back to kill us.

Yes because if we're really dumping expirings to get anyone, we could've been dumping BG as well.

Safe to say every deal since Billups has been a flop.

Im having the same feeling about Stuckey right now when we had BG on our books. I was willing to do anything to just get rid of him. BGs effort was the worse. He didn't even try on that last year he was here. So no, the trade wasn't a flop, Dumars managed to stabilize a disease from spreading. :P

Not yet.

Its a flop only if we lose our draft pick in next season's draft.

Either Detroit rides a horrible contract or they have cap flexibility. The pick is top 8 protected, so...

I'm not seeing how the Pistons lose in any scenario, unless they make the playoffs. Is that bad or something?

I dont think even joe is dumb enough to win some meaningles games at the end of the season this year,if we dont come out this season with a splash,I think he signs some backups to 1 year contracts and we play the youth alot and toward the end tank. There is no way he dosent tank if we have a middle of the road season and risk losing our draft pick by a few spots, especialy in next years draft class.

Tanking doesn't guarantee much outside of anything besides the Bobcats not getting Detroit's pick.

That has a fair chance of being a waste of time for everyone involved.

Detroit can still go the trade route and it's probably a more viable option than anything in FA right now.

Unless we use the cap space to sign a FA or facilitate a trade this year that would have otherwise been impossible without the capspace gained by getting rid of BG, then it is absolutely a flop.

Even if we are bad enough for a top 8 pick this year, that just means we'll give up a first round pick next year. We are giving up a first round pick eventually, just so that we have extra space this year. I'm all for spending wisely, but if that means that we sit tight and don't waste our money on someone now, then we gave up a pick for nothing.

There's still a chance Joe could do something with the cap space this season, hopefully that's the case, but I'm not holding my breath

We got out of a long-term contract on that one. Wouldn't call it a bust.

Id rather have Prince than the capspace that we got from Jose- we wont be using it on anybody who is better than Tayshaun.

And we're feeling that void with what exactly?

Does it matter? We were all ready for the end of the Isolayshaun offense. He wasn't doing a good job of leading the team, and I wouldn't want him at that price for the next couple of years.
