Calderon is definitely not Steve Nash. Not even close. At least not Steve Nash in his prime. You're either severely underrating Nash, or severely overrating Calderon

Or I'm looking at guys that are the same height with comparable athleticism and defensive ability and are on the short list of players in the league that can flirt with 50-40-90 every year? Nash is better but they are clearly cut from the same cloth.

Like I said earlier, like a piss poor man version of Nash, then yeah I agree.

We'd have been crazy to offer that kind of contract to Calderon.

Good for him. He was a good player for the Pistons who didn't really fit into our long term plans and he got a nice contract with a good team to play for. I wish him well.

Addition by subtraction. I honestly would've been bent if we'd spent a chunk of our cap space on a 31 year old PG with serious flaws in his game (like DEFENSE) who demonstrably did NOT make us any better in a half-year try out last season.

As others have written, he seems like a nice guy and a pro's pro, so I wish him well and hold him no ill will. But he was NOT right for us, and I'm very glad the temptation to bring him back is off the table.

Would like to bring him back but definitely not for that price.

So we traded BG and a top 8 protected first in 2014 (#1 protected in 2015) to get Maggette

then traded Tayshaun and Daye for Calderon

and what will we have to show for it?

I'd rather have Tayshaun, BG and our pick unconditionally (Daye still becomes a free agent) then wind up with nothing this off-season.

Frustrating... disapppointing...

sucks to be Dallas though - why bring in Calderon? Their time came and went and they got a ring.... rebuilding sucks but it happens eventually to everyone... AND finally it's happening to the Lakers :-)
