He was also nearly traded for Josh McRoberts, in the infamous botched deal that got the ball rolling on Morway's departure from Indy.

But yeah, that's kind of the thing. Talent is there, numbers aren't bad, but teams have done better without him and the smart teams haven't valued him highly. We shall see.

For Ersan to be worth 8M we have to be legit contenders to win a playoff series.

8M imo is that number where you take a chance, trying to add talent but if it doesn't pan out you're not dead in the water.

Obviously you want contributions from players making this amount, but I don't think you bank your playoff hopes on it.

For us its going to be all about team and not individual. It will be about chemistry and a little luck with Henson and our rookies.

This team lacks talent. Signing a decent, perhaps even underachieving player like Mayo sure beats the alternatives of overpaying Ellis or whatever scraps are left at SG.

Well put. Completely agree with that. Doing it the right way might not involve a playoff series win, and I'm fine with that. But it's got to be a truly positive and substantial push forward. For that to happenl OJ Mayo is going to have to play a certain way and display the right type of attitude consistently, day in and & out. Eight million dollar building blocks should provide eight million dollars with of building blocks.

Glad its only 3 yrs. Really do not want Jennings back feel like we need a clean start from him.
I prefer the title 'cleaner of the gene pool'.

My favorite part is he said he likes one thing and lists two.

Agreed. Really hoping they make a strong push for Jeff Teague. I think he could be really good if he continues to play under coach Drew. I could see him making big strides in the next couple years. Maybe not all-star but fringe all-star perhaps? Definitely an upgrade over Jennings.

For me, this is the kind of player I'm happy to see the Bucks take a chance with. He's still youngish, clearly has talent (went No. 3 overall in his draft just a few years ago) and has shown flashes of being a very good player. Unlike Ellis he doesn't have the Basketball IQ of a piece of wood and clearly isn't going to help your team in a meaningful way. It's been more about focus and work ethic with Mayo. If it does pan out and Mayo comes reasonably close to his full potential the Bucks will have done very well. If he fails, the contract shouldn't be difficult to move in a year or two.

The Clippers did. They were deciding between Mayo and Redick.

Good point. Have to think they preferred Redick though, obviously.

The money is ok by me, and I love that it's only 3 years (until he's 28). I guess I'm happy that it's taking a chance on a 25 year old improving vs a 32 year old-ish player on the decline.
We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees.

I think the reason this is the first FA the Bucks landed is that they offered slightly above market price without going way overboard and refused to overpay when other teams matched or upped the price. They could have easily overpayed Tony Allen or Budinger but didn't which is a good thing, imo.

somewhere MBBOT is smiling right now with OJ on board, and I personally feel good about that. Now if we could get Meeks to back up Mayo I could only imagine.
Back on topic, Does Horford prefer to pay center? Didn't expect them to sign Millsap. So now we know they are not tanking. My guess is they pay enough for Teague and Hammond could outbid them on Devin Harris.
Give me Harris or Collison all day over Jennings.

We need to make it apparent we want Jeff Teague! C'mon Hammond! Hawks just signed Millsap and Korver. Now is the perfect time to make a strong offer to Teague.

There is hope. Injuries aside, players reach their potential in year 5 (approximately) Even Michael J did not much in years 1-4 of his NBA career. Year 5 everything got much much better.
