Dwight Howard fallout: Lin / Asik?

Post#1 » by Invictus88 » Sat Jul 6, 2013 3:51 am

Dwight Howard just signed with Houston. Asik now has publicly commented he didn't want to play with DH. Houston still needs a PF with Robinson now gone. Howard has previously expressed a desire to play with JSmoove.

What do people think the odds are that Houston now dumps Lin and Asik and signs JS?

And what do people think about Detroit just taking both of these guys off of Houston's hands and trying again in free agency next year?

Asik would be an overpaid back up center. Want no part of Lin.

Atl and Houston will work out a sign and trade with those two most likely involved.. and Lin sucks but I like Asik

Would love to have Lin running the floor a bit here and there for this team. Terrific PnR player with decent defense at times and can drive to the rim at will with his explosion. It'd be lob city with him and Drummond.

I'm of the same mind. And at the very worst it's a one year rental. I just don't see a whole lot left in the free agent pool and I'm afraid that Joe is going to do something stupid again with all of the cash on hand.

The biggest downside I see is that it would get in the way of the development of Knight as a PG. But that's if people actually believe that he can be one. Maybe Mo Cheeks will be able to coach him up but I didn't really see much in the way of natural PG instincts from him last year.

Asik doesn't want to stay with the Rockets because he'd be the backup to Howard...if he comes to Detroit he is literally in the same position. I don't think that logically makes sense.

True. But it's not as if Asik has some sort of no trade clause. In the worst case we have a grumpy backup on our bench for a year while we see if Lin can play the point. AND it sort of prevents us from doing something stupid this year with most of the good FAs already signed.

At this point I think I'd much rather just wait until next year with who's still left.

I'd rather ride out BK at point than take someone more promising for extra money.

Sounds like we could be getting Smith still after all!

Sources confirm that the Rockets and Pelicans are discussing a Asik-for-Anderson swap.

If they do that trade for Anderson, its doubtful they'll have the resources to do a Smith s&t. Atlanta also just committed big money to Milsap, so they probably aren't interested in a s&t anymore.

I think the only two teams left with interest in Smith could be us and Dallas, and I haven't heard of Dallas' interest to be honest. With them signing Calderon, not sure if they even have money for Smith.

After all that mess things still look hopeful we could get someone big....

I think we have different viewpoints regarding JSmoove :) I see locking him up to a big contract as a huge mistake. Not signing him would be the biggest benefit of doing the above. Joe could then say he 'did something' in FA and it wouldn't be too damaging to the future of the club.

Smith's best skillset is at PF where I would hope Monroe would be slotted next year. Signing him would compromise Monroe's development as well as not solving needs at PG and SF. I could be wrong but I don't think that Knight is our answer at the 1. I think someone like Lin is a much better distributor and fits much better with Drummond in terms of playstyle.
