Re: Monta Ellis
if hes only getting 6mil a year from us, he's going to take the MLE from a contender instead.

Re: Monta Ellis
He's going to get more than 6 mil a year. I'd say he signs for some where in the 30 mil range. If Reke can get 44 and JR gets scraps from NY I see Monta in the middle.

Re: Monta Ellis
And so it begins.
A few of us were already smelling that we are going to end up with this loser. All these "for the right price" posts are mildly amusing. If we get him were going to overpay for him. This is Joe Dumars we're talking about here.

Re: Monta Ellis
I just looked up Ellis's measurements (I think from combine way back when), out of curiosity.
Height w/o Shoes: 6' 2.25"
Height w/ Shoes: 6' 3.25"
Weight: 177
Wingspan: 6' 2.75"
Standing Reach: 8' 2"
No-Step Vert.: 26.5
Max. Vert.: 31.5
Lane Agility: 12.13
3/4 Court Sprint: 3.31
From http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Monta-Ellis-289/
Wow. Some here would have trashed him at draft time, based on those numbers (like some have trashed Trey Burke). But look at his success. Skill and heart go a long way. His three-point shooting, however, is poor (one season at 36%--I wonder why it dipped below 30% the last few seasons--poor shot selection?). It amazes me that he has been so successful (I know . . . volume scorer . . . PER . . . efficiency . . .).

He's also uncommonly quick and explosive. I have a hard time believing those vertical measurements. Monte can reay get up.

Re: Monta Ellis
Ellis could be good coming off the bench on a 3 year $24 million type deal just like what OJ Majo got from the Bucks...
My only fear would be having an unhappy SG coming off the bench.
This could be a solid bench for us.
C:Kaman or Landry?
PF:Jonas
SF:Singler
SG:Ellis
PG:Stuckey
----
If we could add Josh Smith, Ellis, and a backup center along with Kentavious to our 10 man rotation we would be in good shape.
C:Drummond
PF:Monroe
SF:Smith
SG:Kentavious
PG:Knight

Re: Monta Ellis
Living in NorCal, I saw the Warriors with Ellis and Curry, and knew they would be much better without Ellis. He is a bit of a ball hog and not the greatest on D. HE apparently also has the worst agent in the league - can't believe he walked away from $11M.
If we can get him for $6M a year, it would be a good deal. Similar to Ben Gordon - if we would have paid him 5-6M per, it would be good value. Paying BG or Ellis over 10M per is just a waste of money.
We could use Ellis at PG as well. He can handle the ball, just not pass it

I really want Ellis on this team. I think he's being slept on but he's going to be had for a bargain. We need somebody who can create their own shot in the 6th man role

I'd take him at the right price (around 6 mill per) if he agreed to play as a 6th man. Last thing I want is becoming a constant disruption because he thinks he is Dwyane Wade and wants to be the man and our first option.

Re: Monta Ellis
Hey, if Ellis wants to come off the bench for 6-7 million a year, I'll take that. At worst, he's a huge upgrade over Bynum.

Re: Monta Ellis
I highly doubt Ellis will go anywhere for $6-7 million considering he turned down a 2 year 24 million extension with the Bucks. Even in his worst case scenario where he ultimately has to take less money because he was stupid rejecting that deal, he'd still probably garner at least $10 million per year.

Re: Monta Ellis
I'd warmed up to Ellis pre-Smoove, but now I think any money we have really needs to be put into improving our outside shooting and or/distribution abilities.
If we can't find anyone who fits that bill, save the green.

I believe their best play is to hold onto that remaining cap space (roughly 8 million), and go into the season waiting for a can't miss deal to pop up. Stuckey, CV, Slava and English equal 19 million in expiring contracts. Depending on your financial perception, that gives Detroit about 27 million in assets to move around. It's a promising plan, especially if a team wants to unload a bad contract for a 2014 first round pick, or better yet, a quality player.

A pick would be nice.
As it stands now I don't think its realistic to expect we'll have one in this draft, unless Smith either gets hurt or is an even worse signing than even the most pessimistic among us fear.
