Has there ever been a starting 5 in Charlotte drafted by us?

Post#1 » by SpearNMgicHelmt » Fri Jul 5, 2013 11:16 pm

Before we signed Jefferson, it was looking like we could have five Bobcats-drafted starters next year with:
Kemba/Hendo/MKG/Zeller/Biz.

And that got me to thinking, wondering if the old Hornets had ever done that. I don't believe we ever did. Just prior to the Alonzo trade, we were heading into the season with a starting 5 including 4 who we'd drafted, though Gill had gone elsewhere and returned.

Muggsy, Kendall Gill, Scott Burrell, LJ, Zo

But that team never got on the court because of the trade.

MUGSY came in the expantion draft if I'm not mistaken. I think Washington drafted him.

Yeah. He's the one that makes that team only 4/5 drafted by us. But I believe that would have been as close as the Hornets ever got. After the Zo deal, Bob Bass brought in a ton of our better players via trades. Baron Davis would be the one big exception. Brad Miller was good, but he was an undrafted free agent I think.

I was poking around on that same site when I was pondering this! Seems like Zidek did start for a decent stretch when Geiger got injured.

I just have the vaguest recollection of Reeves. I remember liking Darrin Hancock from that squad.

You'd think with injuries that an all-drafted five would have happened at *some* point.

Name a team that has a starting 5 drafted by them. And to shut it down now, Kawhi Leonard was drafted by the Pacers and traded to the Spurs in a draft day trade. So he wasn't drafted by the Spurs.

your pistons?

knight, stucky, singler, prince, maxiel, monroe, drummond - surely there have been combinations of those 5 during the past 12 months.

Wallace was drafted by Bobcats as well though.

^Sacramento, unless you include being "drafted" in the expansion draft.

Some combination of Westbrook, Harden, Durant, Jeff Green, Ibaka, and Nick Collison has to have started at some point or another. In the future, Westbrook, Lamb/Jackson, Durant, Ibaka, Adams could be the Thunder's starting five as well.

And before you say Green wasn't drafted by the Thunder, the Celtics technically "picked" him, but they did so for the Sonics/Thunder. Same thing the Kings did for Biyombo.

Sorry, I meant like a full time starting lineup. Like guys who started 50 or more games together in a season. Not the occasional end of season who cares starting lineup.

But yeah I guess the Pistons would even count there. Last year; Monroe, Knight, Singler, and Maxiell all started at least 71 games. Prince even started all 45 games he played as a Piston that season.

I would be willing to count a draft day trade in my definition of "drafted", since the player wouldn't have ever played for anybody else. But I don't count an expansion draft.

A line-up that plays for more than just a fluke game was really what I was thinking about originally, then I realized how hard it is for it to even happen at all.

If Presti and Brooks weren't idiots, Ibaka/Green/Durant/Harden/Westbrook would be the best lineup in the league hands down.

We still don't have a specific lineup in a game for a Charlotte team.
